I'm no lawyer, so I don't really know, but I was assuming that it wasn't an issue of the judge saying he had to negotiate RATHER than going to trial; but the negotiations were what the parties were initially going for before the guy yelled at them during said negotiations. The negotiations weren't pre-trial negotiations, but an agreed upon negotiation between both parties to settle without a trial (probably best for all involved: guy, girls, court, taxpayers.)
So, judge-guy thought wild-guy was inhibiting those negotiations, and decided the shenanigans were enough, and ordered the boy-party of the first part to stop being an ass and settle the damn thing (in effect, stop wasting everyone's time.)
Then wild-guy-boy mouthed off in public, sealing his fate. :headshake
That was my take on it, anyway.
