Asked of George Jr in Estonia and from NY Times of 28 Nov 2006:
Quote:

Bush on ‘Civil War’
Q: What is the difference between what we’re seeing now in Iraq and civil war? And do you worry that calling it a civil war would make it difficult to argue that we’re fighting the central front of the war on terror there?
Mr. Bush: You know, the plans of Mr. Zarqawi was to foment sectarian violence. That’s what he said he wanted to do. The Samarra bombing that took place last winter was intended to create sectarian violence, and it has. The recent bombings were to perpetuate the sectarian violence.
In other words, we’ve been in this phase for a while.

And the fundamental objective is to work with the Iraqis to create conditions so that the vast majority of the people will be able to see that there’s a peaceful way forward.
The bombings that took place recently was a part of a pattern that has been going on for about nine months. I’m going to bring this subject up, of course, with Prime Minister Maliki when I visit with him in Jordan on Thursday.
My questions to him will be: What do we need to do to succeed? What is your strategy in dealing with the sectarian violence? I will assure him that we will continue to pursue al Qaeda to make sure that they do not establish a safe haven in Iraq.
I will ask him: What is required and what is your strategy to be a country which can govern itself and sustain itself? And it’s going to be an important meeting, and I’m looking forward to it.
We are now back to blaming "Mission Accomplished" on Zarqawi. Suddenly George Jr is going to ask Maliki for a strategy to end violence. It only took how many years to ask? Does he really think the US puppet government leader has answers? Or is George Jr back to his old lies again?
Quote:

I will assure him that we will continue to pursue al Qaeda
He cannot even get the enemy's name correct - as if Al Qaeda was ever a major force in Iraq. But it has been almost a month. George Jr has completely forgotten what an informed "knee-jerk reactionary" demanded on 7 November. Instead, George Jr is back to 'stay the course' rhetoric as if you will believe him.

Reporters noted that George Jr will not even admit that a civil war is ongoing. Notice how he blames it all on Zarqawi and Al Qaeda.

A new expression for 'stay the course' is 'stability'. We will stay until stability is achieved. "Stay the course". But then wacko conservatives just know we will believe them. They don't even have to define a problem - just provide a solution. Simple logic worked four years ago. Why would it not work today?

Clearly "Mission Accomplished" is all about Al Qaeda. Good. We are finally going after bin Laden? This is “Stability"? Yes to a patient in the mental midget institution.

Rant rant rant rant rant and still nothing constructive -- and as is invariable with tw, he has no better solution to offer than the Administration does, so he has no moral position worth having here. TW is still a useless idiot, and still a commie. Two quite different, if connected, things.

Seems they found the solution:

Study Group to call for Pullback

Pullback...didn't GOP use to call that "cut and run"?

In the meantime, Iraq sinks deeper into utter confusion

Damn sneaky, never thought of that. You think Bush is that clever? Or anyone of the Bushites?

Chaos is a great excuse to crack down harder, in whatever way suits you. Convenient, if you created or facilitated that chaos.

Dick Cheney on Civil War

Quote:

Q Okay, in terms of civil war, would you call it that?

THE VICE PRESIDENT: No, I don't think it's a civil war. You've got a united government, a unity government in place. You've got united military forces in terms of the army, and to some extent the security force. When I think civil war, I think Antietam, Gettysburg. I don't think we're there yet.
mmmmkay... what century is this, again?

Happy Monkey 12-01-2006 11:55 AM

There aren't even towns named Antietam or Gettysburg in Iraq! Or, as Stephen Colbert said, nobody's wearing blue and grey, so it can't be a civil war.
