being the old fart that I am, I do listen to dino rock more than anything else.

nearly 40 *cough* years ago
Hendrix Live at Monterey

That being said, I do like a lot of new stuff, too.

10 bonus points for anyone < 35 yo that can tell us what's wrong with the Hendrix clip.

Focus.
Gentle Giant.
Alan Parsons.
Todd Rundgren.
Steely Dan/Donald Fagen.
Art In America
H. P. Lovecraft
Joe Byrd

but it's not like there's *nothing* to listen to now:

Spock's Beard (before the breakup)
Imogen Heap: Hide & Seek
early Afro Celt Sound System
Origa (themes for Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex)

Well he sometimes plays a lefty guitar right-handed, but he plays every which way so I dunno bout that... He did play righty guitars left handed a lot, so I guess that's not it... hmmm... Gimme some time to think on this one, and I'll tell ya.

I know! I know! He's singing AND chewing gum! My mom said never to do that. Just goes to show you what an incredible talent Hendrix really was! And I'm not kidding!

LOL!!!! :D

Ibby 05-09-2006 11:56 PM

Ew, that did annoy me. I hate it when people sing and chew gum.

Been listening to my London Calling CD all day... does that count?

squeedler 05-10-2006 03:04 PM

Silly me, Barefoot,

I thought that was a given. Though possibly not to those younger than we.

barefoot serpent 05-10-2006 03:31 PM

well, you were warm... and then there was that thing he did with his tongue... at least when he wasn't using it on the strings.

i have been a devotee of La Hendrix since I was 16 (many, many moons and four-way window panes ago) Way, Waaaaay back, when he was v. obscure(at least as far as the '80's go) and I KNEW then, as a white, suburban Catholic High School girl that he, Hendrix, was our own sweet salvation. The mastery of the drive-you-wild-clit-tongue technique was merely a Bonus.

JayMcGee 05-10-2006 07:24 PM

for new guitar bands, check out the Zutons, Franz Ferdinnand, Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol, Belle & Sebastion..... there has been a real resurgence of guittar based pop/rock bands here in the UK over the last few years.

Only time will tell who will make it to the 'rock legends' status......

oh, and saw Focus mentioned earlier - they still touring, saw them live in Crewe not 6 months ago.... still as good as ever.

Ibby 05-11-2006 09:50 AM

Man, the righty/lefty guitar was it? Everyone who knows jack shit about guitar should know that, maaaang...

xoxoxoBruce 05-11-2006 09:13 PM

And he strung it backwards, I've heard. :D

Ibby 05-11-2006 11:53 PM

As I said, he'd play 'em every which way. Righty, lefty, back-strung, he played the works.

squeedler 05-13-2006 10:23 AM

In my experience, which is (or may not be) considerable, I've never seen Hendrix play anything but lefty, and always w/ a righty guitar re-strung so the fat string is on top. I've been known to be wrong, once! :D
