Stir of Echoes. For the third time. I still couldn't remember what happened.
First time I was definitely drunk or stined. In fact I must have fallen asleep about 10 minutes in, because the second time it was all new to me. And it confused me enormously, because I think I had it mixed up with at least two other films, one of which was Momento. I kept waiting for things to happen which didn't.

So when I saw it again on late night TV I Sky+d it as it didn't have subtitles. Can't watch a film without them if the 'rents are in bed, I miss half the dialogue.

Anyway, it turns out it was better than I remembered. Not quite as pedestrian. So that was a plus. Not amazing, and in 5 years time I might rewatch it without quite knowing how it ends again.

I Sky+ some complete crap late at night.
A few minutes in, I realise there are no subtitles and hit Record.
The next day I am staggered by the inanity of the script and the dire acting. Delete!
Sets and costumes are usually good though. That's where the money goes I guess. Shocking.

I caught the last half of As Good As It Gets the other day. I needed it, I really needed it because it made me laugh. Even through this scene, where I cried THEN laughed. I forgot how good that movie is.

Heehee, and this one:

I watched horrible bosses and office space Saturday night.

The original Psycho with Anthony Hopkins and Janet Leigh.

The Cabin in the Woods. Now that was cool. If more horror were like that I wouldn't ignore the genre.

Have not watched a movie on broadcast tv since the zings were born.

Iron Man 2 was on last night. I watched 30 minutes of it. Does that count?

infinite monkey 09-18-2013 11:14 AM

Count as a movie? No. No it doesn't. ;)

I think that's why Cabin appeals to those who don't like the horror genre. It's not really horror. It starts out that way, but quickly slides into zombies (who haven't been scary since the living dead (night of the...and dawn of the..) and sci-fi apocalyptic big budget high action same old. It's great if you like that sort of thing, but i wouldn't call it 'horror' myself.

Sinister is one of the best horror films in a long time, cleverly using the oft-overdone 'found footage' in a new way. and it's really scary. But you don't hear much about it because there just aren't enough explosions.

Cabin is a neat premise. So was Waterworld and The Truman Show. And any type of horror or sci-fi calls for suspension of disbelief. But Sinister was just downright scary and creepy.

And, Ethan Hawke. ;)

Pay me no mind. This is just a random posting by the Grumpy Critic. I don't do real critiques because i just piss people off, then feel badly about it. But I do consider myself a 'scary movie afficianado.' Which brings me to Insidous 2, which I saw Monday. I was the disappoint.

:p:

Hiya grump! ;)

The Brothers Grimm with Matt Damon and Heath Ledger-worth watching twice. I love all that fairy tale gone awry stuff-the graphics/visuals weren't too bad either

"Easy Rider", last night on THiS.

glatt 09-19-2013 11:40 AM

THiS is awesome. Always something on. And when I flip by, I always say "what's THiS?" It never gets old.

Let's expand on this subject shall we? I'm creating a new thread similar to this one, but with less restrictive parameters. Look for it.
