A church in South Carolina that was built in 1854. It survived the Civil War/Sherman's march to the sea and multiple hurricanes.

Lamplighter 09-28-2010 05:06 PM

The church, in and of itself, is striking - and your pic captures it nicely.

Bullitt 09-28-2010 06:01 PM

Glad you like it. Here's a picture of the inside. Framing, pews, and stained glass windows are all original. The church is Lutheran, sits right on the bank of the May River on the coast.

Is that siding Cypress?

Bullitt 09-28-2010 06:54 PM

They said it was some sort of pine, didn't specify. Used to be completely whitewashed but its all worn off now.

xoxoxoBruce 09-28-2010 06:55 PM

OK, Long Leaf Yellow Pine, most likely.

Been in New Orleans for a few days and checked out one of the old cemeteries. Then I went to the Chalmette National Battlefield and Cemetery where the battle that ended the War of 1812 happened.

USCT stands for US Colored Troops who were free men of color as they refer to them. Maybe this guy was born in January???

From about 1864 to 1966 a small black community thrived there but the US parks department forced them to sell their land for the park with the help of the local politician who wanted to lower the power of black voters by removing them. So where did they go? The Ninth Ward. Sucks...

Bullitt 09-30-2010 03:38 PM

I really like your use of depth of field in the first headstone shot. Black and white worked out really well there too showing off the textures and contrast. Nice stuff.

my 2 1/2 yo granddaughter at the Camden aquarium this weekend. The funny part is this picture is a complete accident.

Although it looks like it is either posed or she is reacting to the shark - it is neither. She was saying CHEESE really loud and she happened to look back just at the moment the shutter clicked.

Funniest part - when I showed her the pic. she said "that's cute" in a very cute 2 YO voice :)

Was going through some old digital camera pics from my first digital cam, a Kodak DC3200. One whole megapixel. When the power switch went south, I got a better camera, but I bought another DC3200 off eBay for $1.00, just because.

Anyway, I found this existing light pic of Popdigr from 2002.

TheMercenary 12-01-2010 09:51 AM

Great Pic. We should start a thread of pics of our parents. I have recently come across some great pics of my Dad when he was in the Navy and a few of him as a High School Priniple and Super.

Carruthers 12-09-2010 01:25 PM

It was fortunate that I took my camera with me on Tuesday this week.

Home is somewhere beneath that half a cubic mile of mist:eek:

I may have posted this, not sure. Here is dad somewhere in the south pacific during WWII. Looks like barracks behind them so maybe it was stateside?

He's in the back, middle with the goofy hat. He knew goofy hats were an instant laugh. I would not be surprised if he invented the "lampshade on your head gambit." The guy to his right (no head cover) was the guy who went back to the beach under fire to drag my dad into an evac boat after he'd been left for dead. He was just unconscious.

Shawnee123 12-09-2010 08:58 PM

What a great picture!

footfootfoot 12-09-2010 09:00 PM

Yes, but I actually didn't take it.

Shawnee123 12-09-2010 09:01 PM

Oh, I knew that. Duh.

What few pictures I've seen of you over the years, you look like your dad.

footfootfoot 12-09-2010 09:08 PM

Yeah, more so as I've gotten older. I should dig up a picture of my mom, my younger sister and *cough* myself. We look like three people who look really a lot like one another.

I'd say that I have seen that picture somewhere before.

It certainly was.

I'd sit on the steps down to the back garden and gently lob any scraps of meat we had left over. At times I'd use dog food and on one occasion the Fox attempted to take it straight from the spoon. Unfortunately she grabbed the spoon as well, dropped it and, as a consequence, ran off in fright. She was soon back.

I've got farming friends who would have been mortified had they known I was feeding a Fox!
I can trust you Dwellars to keep a secret now, can't I? CAN'T I? :blah:
