Is that an Aussie expression, other commonwealths as well?

DanaC 05-05-2013 05:07 PM

We use ten to the dozen as well :)

Gravdigr 05-06-2013 02:22 PM

I think ya been cheated.

Sundae 05-07-2013 03:23 AM

Ah but a baker's dozen is thirteen.

DanaC 05-07-2013 03:26 AM

When I googled the phrase it redirected me to 'nineteen to the dozen' which is apparently the Merkin equivalent :P

[eta] hah! According to AskYahoo: Turns out the original phrase was 'nineteen to the dozen', originating during the English Civil War. That then travelled to America and remained current, whereas over here it shifted to 'ten to the dozen'.

[etaa0 some reckon it originated in the 18th century Cornish tin mining industry.

Merkins preserved many words for us.
Garbage was English-English, as was Fall (for Autumn.)

that is an exceptionally handsome canine :)

I was still looking at past photos! LOL Carrot is massive cuteness! I was wondering if the Newf destroyed toys? They are so cute for big guys! The duck toller X is a fabulous creamy color!

Ocean's Edge 05-13-2013 04:48 PM

The newf is quite gentle on his toys, he's a cuddler not a biter :)
He has a giant stuffed sheep, he'll cuddle it an mouth it and purr into it as he falls asleep - newf purrs, nothing like them

Muriel is indeed just a gorgeous puppy - with a great and fabulous personality - everybody loves her, except my Buddy.

The newf was terribly upset by her, avoided her at all costs, verging on panic attacks - we tried hard for 2 months to help the situation settle, and while it was a little bit better - it was never going to be good.

We rehomed the young Muriel (now known as Mia) ... with a lovely lady in the city who had a 5 yr old dog that looked remarkably similar to Mia. Took her there when I dropped Him off at the airport. It breaks both our hearts - she is the sweetest happiest thing, but if we'd kept her it would have been because it was what we wanted. Not because it was what was best for Mia, or what was best for Buddy.

Sadly, they also preserved fashion sense (from the 50s thru 70s) :bolt:
