Ibram is correct for advance sales for Woodstock ... (I would have also accepted $36, as I specified "you and a friend" wanted to go).

Gate price was $24, and $7/8 per day.

Given that we're nearly paying $18 to go see a movie these days, that was an amazing deal for a three day event.

Ibby 09-03-2006 09:51 AM

my sister has a (well, probably a reproduction of a) woodstock poster on her wall.

Ibby 09-03-2006 09:55 AM

What movie plays in the background of Pink Floyd's The Wall?

(movie version, that is, since as far as I know nobody knows what plays in the background of the album version)

barefoot serpent 09-05-2006 12:27 PM

Brazil?

Undertoad 09-05-2006 12:28 PM

The Wizard of Oz?

glatt 09-05-2006 12:31 PM

Nah, it's some army movie.

"How are you doing, Tigger old boy?" comes to mind.

Spexxvet 09-05-2006 12:38 PM

Sgt york?

barefoot serpent 09-05-2006 03:34 PM

The Charge of the Light Brigade?

glatt 09-05-2006 03:51 PM

I wish I knew more. It's a black and white British WWII movie. One I'd never seen before. Beats me what its name is.

Griff 09-05-2006 04:47 PM

cheated

I believe its the Dramatization of an actual operation in World War II in which low level Bombers from England drop skimming bombs into reservoirs in the Ruhr water system to cause floods destroying much of Germany's industrial base. Nobody knows this movie.

Ibby 09-05-2006 05:58 PM

Any floydhead should know this one.

Flint 09-05-2006 06:01 PM

Dude, I couldn't even get a fill-in-the-blanks with Zappa lyrics, so don't feel bad.

I listened to it on my commute home. The one discernable line from the background movie is "Hello Tigger, old boy. How are you doing?"

Maybe they say Digger, not Tigger.

That's all I got.

JayMcGee 09-05-2006 06:54 PM

Paths of Glory

Ibby 09-05-2006 10:14 PM

Actually, the dog's name is Nigger, but for the american version of DAMBUSTERS they redubbed it Trigger.

Dambusters, a movie about blowing up a giant wall.

Okay, new question. What is the name of the band who sang with Paul Simon on Graceland (most notably, the track Homeless)?

jinx 09-05-2006 10:18 PM

Ladysmith Black mambazo?

Ibby 09-05-2006 11:37 PM

Yeah.

Shawnee123 09-06-2006 07:59 AM

Ladysmith Black Mozambo (not sure of spelling.)

(edit: damn too late, and I knew one for once)

jinx 09-06-2006 11:40 AM

One thing that Eddie Van Halen, Slash, and Carlos Santata have in common is that they are credited with performing on albums by this artist.

glatt 09-06-2006 11:53 AM

Britney Spears? :p

Flint 09-06-2006 12:03 PM

Michael Jackson?

lumberjim 09-06-2006 12:04 PM

Shawnee123 09-06-2006 12:06 PM

jinx 09-06-2006 12:28 PM

Flint 09-06-2006 12:33 PM

What does Peter Griffin (Family Guy) call Eddie Van Halen's wife?

Shawnee123 09-06-2006 12:50 PM

Valerie Vermicelli?

Flint 09-06-2006 12:51 PM

oooh good guess!...but no...

Edit: (Hint) You don't need to have seen Family Guy, if you've seen Sesame Street...

glatt 09-06-2006 01:01 PM

Valerie Bert and Ernie?

Flint 09-06-2006 01:02 PM

ha ha ha that's it! glatt goes...

glatt 09-06-2006 01:25 PM

The Sesame Street hint gave it away.

What hard rocking lead singer allegedly tattooed a W to each of her inner thighs so that when she spread her legs, it would say W O W ?

(I remember reading this in my youth, but just tried to confirm it and found nothing. So I'm quite sure it's true, but have no proof.)

Flint 09-06-2006 01:34 PM

I know, glatt, I didn't wanna get stuck on that one...

Let's see... David Lee Roth? Richard Simmons? Al Sharpton?

Shawnee123 09-06-2006 02:03 PM

Courteny Looooooooooooooove?

Flint 09-06-2006 02:04 PM

No, he said in his youth, so it has to be, like, Billie Holliday or something.

Beestie 09-06-2006 02:18 PM

Janis Joplin?

Spexxvet 09-06-2006 02:21 PM

Grace Slick? Wendy O. Williams?

Yep.
Wendy O. Williams. (W. O. W.)

I couldn't confirm it's true, but since she has done just about everything else, I believe it.

Your turn, Spexxvet

Spexxvet 09-06-2006 02:40 PM

Easy one:
How many songs are on Yes' double album (vinyl version) Tales of Topographic Oceans?

Flint 09-06-2006 02:41 PM

4? (4 tracks?)

Spexxvet 09-06-2006 02:44 PM

I knew it was too easy. Correctamundo!

Flint 09-06-2006 02:47 PM

Damn...I never can think of a good question.
Which decade did Ronnie James Dio's career begin in? And what was the band?

bluecuracao 09-06-2006 02:52 PM

The '70s? Black Sabbath?

Flint 09-06-2006 02:53 PM

way before that

Shawnee123 09-06-2006 04:00 PM

If it weren't cheating I would call my 17 year old nephew and ask him! He loves the Dio.

be-bop 09-06-2006 05:05 PM

It was a band called ELF..saw then as support to Deep Purple when Burn was released and Coverdale took over from Gillan Mis 70's..

Flint 09-07-2006 09:13 AM

This is waaay before that. He played trumpet.

barefoot serpent 09-07-2006 09:15 AM

William McKinley Junior High School?

Spexxvet 09-07-2006 09:16 AM

Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass

Spexxvet 09-07-2006 09:16 AM

Chicago?

Flint 09-08-2006 10:05 AM

Dio played trumpet for the Vegas Kings in the late 50s.

Somebody go. Please...

What musical instrument was invented by Lev Termen?

Flint 09-08-2006 11:10 AM

The Theremin?

glatt 09-08-2006 11:14 AM

Yes!

And the ball is back in your court once again, old boy.

Is that what he studied at Juliard?

Flint 09-08-2006 02:05 PM

@Griff: I've never been able to determine if Dio going to Juliard is an "urban legend" or not.

@glatt: Damnit! I really don't want it to be my turn again. I'm better at answering than asking. Give me a minute...

Flint 09-08-2006 02:07 PM

Off the top of my head... What was invented first, the foot-operated bass drum pedal, or the high-hat cymbal pedal?
And... So as this isn't a two-guess question... I can't ask you the year, but give me the century and the decade at least.

mrnoodle 09-08-2006 03:36 PM

The earliest picture I can summon into my head is of one of those one-man-band guys. I'll say 19th century, and the bass drum one came first. Total guess, though.

Flint 09-08-2006 04:02 PM

I suck at this. Bass pedal, 1909. High-hat, 1928. I forfeit my turn(s)...
