If ya still have to wait the length of the ad, what good is the ad blocker?

I thought ad blockers blocked the ad from even being loaded. Does it just black out the ad while it plays?

It can block out the noise from the ad.

It's an ongoing battle. YouTube makes an advance in the adblocker wars once or twice a year--finds some coding trick that will force the ads to play in some temporary/partial fashion--and then within a few weeks the adblockers have corrected their own code to close the loophole.

Other places it just blocks the ads except a couple of the media outlets want me to turn it off or create an account. That hasn't been a problem because I turn it off at those sites anyway. I want the newspapers to make money.
