Definitely depends on local laws--you can't get anything from a doctor without parental notification here. Which is not to say that they check the ID of the adult you bring with you. But it can be hard finding someone who looks old enough to be your parent who will actually take you to get birth control and keep the secret.

But Ibram... you're not getting the spermicide as an alternative to the condoms, right? Right? Because spermicide ain't good enough on its own. You can get condoms that are already lubricated with spermicide, if she's just looking for a little extra guarantee.

Actually Clod, you can get b.c. at 17 w/o parental consent in TX. I know, that is when I went and got it. Look around for local health/woman's clinics. I know its not the states where we have Planned Parenthood but ya'll might have some version of. It sounds dirty to some, but also run a search for "abortion clinics" they prob have the same birth control services. Like I've said already, and I can't stress more, if ya'll are gonna be sexually active, you have to go to the doc (you too bub) to be screened for STDs and other issues. I know ya'll are in the clear on the STDs now, but it won't hurt anything. Women, even if they don't change partners, should go after they become active or 18yrs. Personally I think all the age and parental consent laws cause more harm than good, but if there is no other way for her to get a gyno exam, then she's gonna have to talk to her mom.
Another path I just thought of: if she has a family/general doc and can go to them w/o parental consent, tell her to talk to them. General docs here can do woman's health exams and I guess prescribe birth control too. When I was 16yngr my family doc didn't ever need parental consent b/c my mom had signed pprs giving it already...sneaky sneaky huh?

no, clod, i can't get condoms already spermicided; that's the problem, i've looked and can't find them. which means, no tail for ibby 'till he finds an alternative.

we just plain can't get it without her mother knowing; we definitely aren't telling her. It's bad enough having your girlfriend's momma know you're gettin' it on with her daughter... it's a lot worse when she's the school librarian, and knows your parents, and keeps her daughter on a really tight leash, and is pretty uptight about everything in general, and could easily make your life a living hell.

OK, so let's think about this. Ruling out hormonal BC, your alternatives are condoms, spermicide, yanking it out at the right time, NFP, and combinations thereof.

NFP = Natural Family Planning. It's got a bad rap, but when it's done right can really work - especially as part of a combo. At your age doing all the complicated temperature charting crap isn't going to be likely, so along with just keeping track of days (and keep in mind, also at this age - or any age - her cycle may not be regular) there is a thing called cervical mucus. Sounds gross, but it's actually a pretty good indicator of when you ought to not be doing nothin' even with a layer of latex. :) Check out this link - http://www.mjbovo.com/Contracept/Instruct-NatCerv.htm

So wait, what's the problem with condoms again?
Pretty much every woman in my peer group insisted on their use because the pill isn't 100% effective anyway. And because they're the only barrier against STDs. Again, I know that's not an issue for you right now, but what I'm saying is you'll be dealing with condoms for a long time - if you can get used to them it would be safer and easier.

Re injections - I know more people who have had trouble with the pill than injections. But I do accept YMMV. I've never had any trouble with any birth control, except being too slack to take the pill. And vitamins are in no way necessary for everyone! Children, OAPs, pregnant or nursing mothers.

It's times like this when I think of something my Grandmother always used to say.
"It's just not sex without something in your ass."

I miss Grandma. :D

She doesn't trust 'em.

xoxoxoBruce 11-11-2008 10:41 AM

She's right not to trust them, like anything else, they're not 100% foolproof.
BUT, they should be augmented, not eliminated. You're betting the rest of your life on it. :eyebrow:

I'd say look online, but I guess your parents might vet your mail, huh? Maybe that rules out care packages too...

Perhaps he could rent a P.O. box.

Hmm... Bolero IS pretty good for it, actually. gave it a shot... a little too short, though, yeah. it started over a second time... its kinda hard to tell though, except it just gets quieter and keeps going...

Sorry to hear that. But I'm sure you make up for it with determination. :-)
