You could have cut the baseboard and set your frame flush with the wall. I mean you're never going to move the machines back to the cellar.
Are you moving that outlet out to the face of your construction?

Good eye, Bruce. No, we're gonna put a little door on the right side face of that base so we can get to it if we need it. (read Amanda reaching in there) With a notch to allow it to close with wires plugged in. ... At first, I was thinking 3/8" sheet rock, but now I'm thinking Luan cladding on the outside with molding on the edges.

Is that an optical illusion, that the rear horizontal member of the lower box hiding the pipes looks like it's not even close to being level?

Otherwise, it looks like it's going to be really good. That's a nice space there right by the door. Just screaming for something to be built in.

There's a guy up near Binghamton that can make beautiful boards. ;)

i was toying with the idea of creating my own molding ,but I think it will be more cost effective to buy it. I have a router table and the bits I would need... but the time it would take is prohibitive.

and my boards are a year away

I hope this carpentry is done before I get up there again. I am allergic to dust unless it is in my pipe. Keep up the good work dude.

Yes, we need a mudroom.

Little shelves in the columns sounds helpful too, perhaps to hold small baskets for the sundries that always end up by the door if not kept in check...... Sunblock in summer. maybe bug spray... Pepper Spray for the JW..... :D

I agree, molding is a pain in the ass even with long clear straight grained wood (if you can find it) and a shaper. Store bought is where it's at. :yesnod:

The glatt household has a big folded beach towel on the floor by the front door for most of the winter. The boots dry there and the melting snow in the treads has someplace to go instead of all over the wood floor.

You're probably thinking of this already, but I would encourage you to try to mimic the molding on and around the front door as much as reasonably possible to make it look like it has always been there.
