lots of nasty rain in their part of the world folks.

glatt 06-12-2008 04:37 PM

for weeks though?

lookout123 06-12-2008 04:38 PM

i heard it went 40 days and nights once.

lookout123 06-12-2008 05:09 PM

Looks like the school has been hit with flooding and the city council has considered enforced evacuations. IIRC they only post from work so that may be all the news we get for awhile.

lumberjim 06-15-2008 12:12 PM

labrat's profile says she was last active on 6/13. i tried her cell phone today, but it went right to voicemail. i thought i had big red's but the voicemail sounded like a work line. I hope they're safe and sound.

I hope Labber comes on here with an update soon!

Sundae 06-15-2008 05:55 PM

I left a message on her home voicemail.
I really just hoped she'd pick up, but once I was through it seemed silly to hang up even if other Dwellars have also left messages.

Hope all three of them (who knows, maybe even four) are okay.

jinx 06-15-2008 07:35 PM

She left a message on LJ's voicemail indicating that all are ok. Phew.

LabRat 06-15-2008 08:35 PM

Hey all,

I haven't been logging in lately because I was trying to distance myself a bit from the cellar. :) More details about that some other time.

Unfortunately, we have been having insane amounts of precipitation since really last winter that has resulted in recordbreaking (up to 10 feet over previous records) flooding of local rivers, including the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids, and the Iowa River in Iowa city.

Our local news station kcrg.com has the latest news, as does the University of Iowa website, uiowa.edu.

Our home is fine, luckily. Unfortunately many of Red's clients have lost their homes to flooding, so he has been very busy and stressed out.

As I can, I will post more. The last day I was at work was last Wed, and I did manage to get some pics of Iowa City for those familiar with the area. I have to go to the local coffee shops for free internet though :)

Sundae 06-16-2008 04:41 AM

Really glad to hear you and yours are safe and well.
Take your own time - we miss you but if you have a good reason for not being here then I for one won't push you on it.

It was just the combination of the dangerous conditions and your silence - very scary!

loTEK911 06-18-2008 06:36 AM

An 11 month thread. Oi! Figure this is as good a place as any to say 'ello again. I am loTEK th lurker! Ex stripclub employee, Bartender extra. Out of Seattle, Wa. BigV 06-18-2008 11:08 AM

Where is Beestie?

BigV 06-19-2008 04:20 PM

Where are Kitsune and Chocolatl?

glatt 06-19-2008 04:27 PM

Is Shawnee on vacation or something?

BigV 06-19-2008 04:53 PM

School's out!

Chocolatl 06-20-2008 03:29 PM

I can't speak for Kitsune's internet habits, but I should be turning up more often over the summer.
The past four months have just been crazy with major life events -- weddings, births, deaths -- while also dealing with papers and projects at school.
Class is out, though, and no one I know is pregnant, engaged, or terminally ill, so it seems like the next few months should be pretty calm. It's good to be back!

BigV 06-20-2008 03:34 PM

And good to have you back. Find that man, though, would you? I, for one, would like to talk shop with him. (and by shop, I mean hobby, and by hobby, I mean photography. He is missed too.)

There's been a sighting!

Dingleschmutz 06-25-2008 11:23 AM

No one missed me? Harumph...

HungLikeJesus 06-25-2008 11:30 AM

Hey where's Dingleschmutz? And what about Shawnee?

Cicero 06-25-2008 01:16 PM

Dingle- I missed you but am working on getting better aim with this set of blow-darts. Just call me cupid.
:)

classicman 06-25-2008 07:56 PM

Yeh - Shawnees been gone too long. hmmm

monster 06-25-2008 10:17 PM

Maybe she's gettin' some

Cicero 06-25-2008 11:45 PM

Hopefully gettin' some internet......

BigV 06-26-2008 09:11 AM

Cupid darts don't have any real effect on me except for making me angry.

Sundae 06-28-2008 07:17 PM

WHERE ARE Shawnee and Brianna
I'm quite concerned now.

I'm taking breaks because I'm working hard, so I sometimes I miss things. You know what it's like, you have 3 pages of new posts and skim them.

But even on my weekend catch-ups I can't see them.

If you're here tell me you're okay - you're my Ohio sisters under the skin.
Also I really need a Bri update. I can't get my Mum to pray forever you know ;)

Clodfobble 06-28-2008 08:58 PM

I dunno about Bri, but I'm pretty sure Shawnee gets her internet access at work, and it's summer break for them right now.

Shawnee123 06-30-2008 08:24 AM

Hai guyz.

I'm alive and well. Actually, have been very busy at work and with my Cellar addiction I find that even coming in to lurk has gotten me into trouble. We don't close in the summer, though this summer they are reducing the week by closing campus on Fri/Sat/Sun in hopes of saving energy, and we do 4 10-hour days, which makes working extra hours to get stuff done difficult.

The week before last was Kid's College and I brought my niece so came in late and left early, using vacation time. Last week we were only in the office for 3 days (we had a retreat on Thursday) and this week we will only have 3 days in due to getting Thursday off as our 4th of July paid holiday day.

I'm trying to get really caught up here so maybe I can take some real time off soon; but as I just got word of a new scholarship program I'm sure I'm just dreaming.

Also, have a doc appt in the morning for a pain that I have now convinced myself is ovarian cancer (come on, the internet told me so) and my mind is not really on anything.

I've been thinking about you all and missing you. Hope you are all well. I did try to lurk one day last week and found myself wanting MORE MORE MORE Cellar! :)

Sundae 06-30-2008 08:37 AM

Yay - glad to hear you're alive.
Missing you.

Come back & tell us when you've been to the doctors at least, promise?

Trilby 06-30-2008 08:38 AM

Hi! I'm here, too. Just silent for now. I"m ok, though, thanks for thinking of me! I will finish radiation on tuesday and it looks like all I need to do for the rest of the summer is grow some hair! (I look like a Fuller brush right now)

Shawnee123 06-30-2008 08:53 AM

See, now I can't stay away. :)

Glad to hear you are well, too, Bri. I bet you're the cutest Fuller Brush evah!

I wanted to add that whatever I have is probably nothing...maybe just a bladder infection or a cyst...looking back I sound like a Cassandra, but you know what our minds can do to us. Sorry to be an alarmist, just feeling a bit alone with my fear right now.

Sundae 06-30-2008 09:40 AM

My girls are back in town. Phew.
Love and healing thoughts to you both - Bri for growth and Shawnee for none!

Sundae 07-10-2008 07:03 AM

I know RK was banned.
I understand the reasons completely. He became like a cornered dog in the end, snapping and snarling at anyone that approached him.

But I do miss him.
So I figure that belongs in this thread.

Shawnee123 07-10-2008 07:47 AM

Yeah, he's missable. It's a shame. Lord knows I've had more than my share of moments.

You know who I miss? ZenGum!

Zen, where are you? At least check in and tell us you're okey-dokey.

yeah... He's left the building.

Undertoad 07-10-2008 01:38 PM

I believe rk requested deletion, like drax.

If you miss him, here's his channel at YouTube. It only takes two minutes to remind you of the level of self-absorption he achieved.

You could watch all 164 of his videos - some get as many as five views per day - or just watch one, because they are pretty much identical.

YouTube is the perfect outlet for the guy, because then he can give you a straight ten minutes of his opinion, without you annoying him by saying anything or asking questions.

If you search him on Google, you get 14K hits. He's currently active over on an atheist message board.

They can have him.

Shawnee123 07-10-2008 02:07 PM

Check this out: http://www.computerforum.com/members...-datalyss.html

btw, what's a torrent, and what does it have to do with pirates? Drax/Datalyss is apparently a torrent pirate somewhere.

eh, I dont' know.

lookout123 07-10-2008 07:53 PM

its slang for underage-ass.

xoxoxoBruce 07-10-2008 09:56 PM

Oh stop it.
BitTorrent is a file sharing protocol. BitTorrent "pirates" are trading copyright protected media like music, or movies, over the net. The RIAA and whatever group represents the movie industry, have been trying to track down and prosecute these people as an example.

ZenGum 07-21-2008 10:58 PM

ZenGum returns - the Dork Nought!

Hiya!!!

Hi Cellarites!

My apologies for my long absence. I've stopped by for the occasional lurk but I just know that once I start posting again, I'll be sliding down that slippery slope to obsessive internetitis. And showing undue concern about things like "post count". Oh well, here we go...

So, hmm, shall I update you?

I returned to my hometown of Adelaide, South Australia in February, and immediately got together with my lady-friend for whom I had been carrying a torch for many years. I had been in Japan for a few years and she divorced while I was over there, and after almost a year I went to be with her. Imagine the scene ... travel-tired, taxi-ride, doorbell .... eyes meet, arms wrap, symphony orchestra swells up, camera goes misty etc etc.

Since then we have been mostly very good together, but there have been a couple of seriously difficult passages. But I am adjusting from a chronically single life and she is coming out of a divorce, and we both have various other life issues, so all things considered I think we are doing pretty well.

I slid smoothly into work - casual tutoring of undergraduate philosophy courses at two universities here. I had studied at both in the early to mid 90s and knew most of the profs from my time as a PhD student, and that plus my actual qualifications and experience enabled me to get the work. I was teaching 10 classes per week and had to mark an enormous pile of essays, a large proportion of which were complete drivel. Seriously, after a whole semester of studying "Argument and Critical Thinking" I expect students to at least be able to SPELL ARGUMENT not ARGUEMENT especially when it is on damn near every page of the exam booklet. [deep breath, end rant].

I have now started a new job, better pay and conditions, teaching critical thinking to international students who are aspiring to get into Adelaide universities. Again, I had a contact who got me the foot in the door, but my CV got me the job. I think. This job is starting this week, and so I am in a very brief lull in workload right now. I am also tutoring a higher-level course at uni to keep my brain active.

Hmmmm what else? Of course I have been catching up with old friends, doing some mountain-biking, hiking, damaging my lungs and brain in a manner I could not arrange in Japan, and have been doing most of these at the same time. Good times.

So, now that I have fallen off the wagon I plan to be around here more often. Maybe not quite so much as my first phase, but we'll see. And let me add, it is really nice to see that people had noticed my absence and missed me. Seriously, people, thank you. :grouphug:

DanaC 07-22-2008 05:15 AM

Yey! Welcome back ZenGum! *Does the happy dance*

Sundae 07-22-2008 05:19 AM

Welcome back you!
I didn't realise you were from Adelaide.
I can hear you in my head now (your accent I mean - my boss is from there)

classicman 07-22-2008 07:42 AM

Yo, welcome back.

I am so glad it worked out well for you two. I was really afraid of a big crash and burn, because I'm just a nasty cynic like that. Tell her to stop in and say hi sometime . :)

monster 07-22-2008 06:16 PM

yay, Zengum's back!

That is just so goddamn awesome! I want that job.

Clodfobble 07-22-2008 07:38 PM

As long as you're not teaching them to be "self-actualized, self-learners."

Cicero 07-22-2008 07:53 PM

Woa stop the press! It's zengum! Yea!!

I think I was spelling argument wrong. I read that genre all the time and I think I really messed up.

On another note!
The whole return to Adelaide situation sounds very romantic! :) Niiice.

Welcome Back!!! I didn't miss you, so if you think I wrote something about it, you are sorely mistaken. Someone might have used my account to write drivel.
:D

Shawnee123 07-28-2008 11:12 AM

Hi all,

Back from staycation, rested and busy!

Mr Gum, how very nice to hear from you. Glad to hear things are going well! :)

Clodfobble 08-01-2008 12:39 PM

Well, he shows as having logged in just a couple days ago, but Happy Monkey has been lurking silently for over a month. Where you be, HM??

spudcon 08-13-2008 06:59 PM

Where is LumberJim?

Happy Monkey 08-14-2008 09:44 PM

I've been over the top busy at work, which (in combination with the increased Cellar activity) caused the unread Cellar threads to pile up, which started a vicious cycle of not feeling up to wading through them, which caused them to pile up more, etc, etc...

I'll see if I can get back in the swing of things...

HungLikeJesus 08-14-2008 10:16 PM
