We got an inch last night. It had rained after the last big one before Christmas, and there were just isolated clumps of dirty snow, but now everything is white again, if just barely.

We picked up another 1/2 foot yesterday and overnight. They were calling for 1 to 3 inches. I guess that's pretty close, they got the color right. To be fair, we're at elevation and are on the lee side of the hill so we accumulate more.

A friend living half way between Daytona and Orlando, Florida, sent me a picture of snow on their pool enclosure, this morning.

My pool has a sheet of ice on it about 5-6 inches thick, and it's been like that for about a week.

It's hockey time!

We have cool nights and right now it is 36 degrees. Our high will be 53 and partly cloudy. There has been a lot of rain as usual and this weather is typical. I think we had snow last year around about this time. We could still see snow or ice in Feb. I wish I had an weather almanac or something to give me an outlook. I am in a hurry for spring. I feel like a hedgehog in it's burrow trying to stay warm.

European Deep Freeze

It's chilly over there.

Bus engine oil is freezing in Norway, and Ireland is reporting its lowest temps in 50 years. In Britain, which looks like a baby Greenland on satellite images, Prime Minister Gordon Brown is turning into the nation's weather comforter-in-chief.

Meanwhile, SoCal is getting everyone else's warm, and falling behind on rainfall again. Bright, sunny, seventies. But it seems everyone east of the Rockies is schlepping around in galoshes and going skating.

Snowing again. Bleh. Train timetables are all to cock. My seat reservation no longer applies on the revised timetable. I hate travelling to London without a reservation. It's a stress-fest. You get there and battle your way on with all your luggage and hope to hell there's a seat. And if not, you end up standing (great) or sitting in the connecting passages with your luggage around you.

On the way back from London last time, I got lucky; on a revised train, I managed to grab a seat, but there were people standing almost all the way from London to Leeds.

Wish me luck!

In December '08 it took me around 12 hours from London to Dartmoor because of flooding. Had to change trains four times. On the up side the station master called a taxi (paid for by something-or-other rail company) when they found that the last train wasn't running after all.

What kind of weather do Assorted Railways need to run on time?

Nevertheless, Good Luck Dana.

Good luck darlin'
I've always lucked out when weather has disrupted trains. I got a bump up to 1st class from Weymouth back to London once. I was leaving early because my travelling companion was doing my head in, but when I asked the guard if it was okay if I was travelling on the wrong day he thought I'd been delayed and stamped my ticket accordingly. Then again, he hung around for about 30 mins chatting to me...

NO SNOW HERE.
A dusting overnight. And I mean a dusting - wouldn't have scared a diabetic if it was on top of a cake.
Stupid forecasters :(

Went for a tramp round Watermead with Mum today though.
Will go for one tomorrow too - it's lovely. No turds, three wheel pushchairs or dog walkers in sight. We'll take bread for the ducks next time as well.
