12/7/2005: Sheep protest in Madrid

Yesterday we had a protestor dressed as an animal, now here are actual animals used in protest. In this case, sent along by xoB from the Wash. Post Day in Photos, these sheep were herded through the middle of Madrid in an annual protest of the destruction of Spain's "ancient routes for leading livestock to the pasture". So the official caption says.

If it's an annual protest, doesn't that really tell you that the protest has been ineffective? Or -- has it been effective, and they've kept protesting in case the lack of protest is what made the routes negligible in the first place?

In any case, it's fun to see the flock marching down the middle of the street. I imagine the smell might put you off your burger though. And who's responsible for clean-up...?

They should probably paint words on the sides of the sheep so that they can have sheep protest poetry.

(and yes, I'm really saddended that sycamore never pulled off that similar project before fleeing back to the Midwest)

Globalization

Pretty soon every street in the world will have a Starbucks, a McDonalds, and a Walgreens. -- And everyone will have a cell phone with digital camera.

That's reminds me, how come that I still never owned a cellphone.
Heck even my 88 year old dad have one.
I mean,I'm not afraid of tech stuff or anything... (I do have 4 computers running all day at home...)
I dont get it.

*Sorry if it was little offtopic..

Because you realize you don't need a cell phone with your lifestyle and you are not a sheep who buys thing because everyone else does.

Where are the numbers?
All the older dudes in the pic are already falling asleep. What a sleepy little town. If they'd turn a few bulls loose this scene would soon be history.
Maybe they should just leave the damn sheep in the pasture. Just a thought. Guess they need them home at night.

beavis  Thursday Dec 8 01:54 AM

i thought animal protests were required to have naked chicks...

Of course they're sleepy - they're counting a lot of sheep....

The sheep aren't wearing any underwear, and I don't see a ram in the bunch.

I'm just glad that McDonald's was thoughtful enough to put an 'E' on the end of 'restaurant'. Without that 'E', I doubt if any of those people could figure out just what that is.

You've gotta be culturally sensitive, right? That 'E' carries a lot of symbolic weight.

wolf  Thursday Dec 8 10:24 AM

I think that it's charming that foreigners seem to think that McDonalds is a restaurant.

Never say never. As soon as April and I make our first million, it's on.

I hadn't looked at this thread before now. When I saw the title, I naturally assumed that it was going to be about a bunch of sheep who were fed up with being buggered by Humbug.
