8/23/2005: Indonesian water boxers

These men are "water boxers", in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Apparently the sport involves being a huge spazz until your opponent laughs uncontrollably.

wolf  Tuesday Aug 23 01:33 PM

I thought this was going to be about some new clothing fad.

Hobbs  Tuesday Aug 23 01:52 PM

Large amounts of stagnet standing water and boxing...wow, who'd a thunk it? What will those crazy Indonesians think of next?

John  Tuesday Aug 23 02:01 PM

I didn't realise "water boxers" was an INSTRUCTION.

Step 1: Wear Boxers
Step 2: Get water
Step 3: Water boxers.
Step 4:
Step 5: Profit!!!

Clodfobble  Tuesday Aug 23 02:29 PM

Step 4: Harvest your new crop of boxers in September.

wolf  Tuesday Aug 23 02:32 PM

I also wondered about what kind of non-Friday animal horror I would be opening a new window ...

lookout123  Tuesday Aug 23 02:32 PM

But what's step 4?!?!?!

wolf  Tuesday Aug 23 02:35 PM

Shrinkage

Hobbs  Tuesday Aug 23 02:55 PM

The last time I watered my boxers, I almost fell off a cliff on my mountain bike.

Trilby  Tuesday Aug 23 04:29 PM

Lordy, wolf, stop it! I'm blowing Coke out my damn nose!!

(uh, that's Coca-COLA)

Elspode  Tuesday Aug 23 05:50 PM

Watering one's boxers usually leaves one with a brief, warm feeling, then a smelly and clammy sort of air.

*flipping through notes* Nope. it most definitely does NOT go OUT.

Leah  Tuesday Aug 23 06:07 PM

Watch out tourists, they are probably undercover police officers entertaining themselves between another drug bust on Stupid Aussie Tourists.

BigV  Tuesday Aug 23 06:43 PM

German Waterboxers

This is what I expected...

At least that's less expensive ...

BigV  Wednesday Aug 24 02:01 AM

You know, you just can't wind up an clock somebody properly when you're straddling a bamboo pole! Look ma! No hands! No nuts either. Just where is the left boxer's weight being supported from? I think right boxer is cracking up thinking "Dude, your nuts just burst!"

The picture is still funny, but funny like those scenes from Jackass where the guy takes a croquet mallet to the crotch. *wince*

chrisinhouston  Wednesday Aug 24 08:09 AM

Looks like the spectators are getting a good show for their money!

I didn't even see the bamboo pole. Wierd optical illusion. I thought it was the top of a sort of retaining wall holding up the muddy bank behind the boxers. The picture makes a lot more sense now, and the guy on the left looks far less spazzy than before, when I thought he was jumping up out of the water while simultaneously striking out in an awkward way.

Clodfobble  Wednesday Aug 24 10:22 AM

Hey, there's a pole there! That makes the left guy much less spazzy, I agree. Still well within the realm of spazz, though.

CharlieG  Wednesday Aug 24 01:50 PM

I'll agree - the photo makes a lot more sense now (duh)

capnhowdy  Wednesday Aug 24 04:12 PM

I didn't see the pole either at first. Maybe this is the Indonesian version of log rolling. I've always wondered why the hell those log rolling guys didn't just knock hell out of their opponent.

xoxoxoBruce  Wednesday Aug 24 05:12 PM

Naw, the pole is along the far bank.

gerstle  Thursday Aug 25 12:45 AM

so do they put electric eels in the water just to spice it up a bit?

gerstle  Thursday Aug 25 12:49 AM

You know, i'm not one to judge, but...

what kind of individual does it make you if you get your kicks from throwing rather feminine punches at other men while squeezing a large wooden pole between your legs and dangling above a large pool of water while people watch in amusement?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Ok, i'm sorry, i couldn't help myself.

[Dr. Evil] I have one simple request - sharks with friggin' laser beams attached to their heads, and it can't be done? Remind me again why I pay you people? What do we have? [/Dr. Evil]
