6/20/2005: Toilet restaurant

Clodfobble finds this wonderful one, the official cap: Children in Khaohsiung, Taiwan, sit on Western-style toilets as they enjoy ice cream served in miniature Asian squat toilets at Marton -- a recent hit theme restaurant. It's named after the Chinese word Matong, meaning -- what else -- toilet. The restaurant became so flush with success that owner Eric Wang opened a second branch just seven months after the first.

I think I would take a kid there. Because if nothing else, you KNOW they're not gonna mess up their food safety practices.

"there/they're/their" trifecta unintentional

I would definitely get the hot fudge. With peanuts!

I wonder what the bathrooms look like?

Yeah, I would take a shit there too.
It looks like the kids have "hunter" safety vests on. One kid looks like he is snorting his food with a straw up his nose. Even though cultures may vary, and their restraunts may differ, Kids all over the world have the same table manners. None.

This is g*dawful and disgusting and WRONG. What the hell kind of ambiance is that? Totally gross and weird. I wouldn't take anyone there--I've more respect for my kids than that! I might take a dog there. Like one with two penii.

I would hope not, but I understand that the sanitary standards of other cultures do vary, particularly when considering American Standards.

Hmmm....well.....

If the food is crappy, at least your in the right environment.

There, I said it.

Was that an intended pun?

Yes.

Speaking of Taiwanese toilets, my brother and his wife have a restaraunt in Taipei and in one of the restrooms they have a toilet they bought in Japan that has a small sink on the top of the tank. The water that is pumped to refil the toilet tank and bowl after flushing passes through the faucet on the sink and then drains down into the toilet tank, ultimately conserving water usage; you wash your hands and the water is then reused for the next flush.

Also I found that homes don't usually have shower curtains around the tub, you shower and get the floor nice and wet and then it is clean for the next person.

It would never fly over in the USA, we like to use the most resources possible!

Clodfobble  Wednesday Jun 22 04:39 PM

And it wouldn't work unless the bathroom has a drain in the floor like commercial bathrooms do. If water gets all over my bathroom floor, it has to be mopped up or mold will grow.

wolf  Wednesday Jun 22 07:22 PM

Mine would drip down causing a major problem with the first floor ceiling.

Something to keep in mind while designing a home, though.
