6/15/2005: Gay pride in Poland (vs USA)

xoB points out the differences in the images of different gay pride days. The first is in Poland and according to the full story, the mayor of Warsaw banned the march but 2000 marchers showed up anyway... and were treated to this.

I'm happy to say the image from Washington was much better.

Go US! (For a change...)

Zenchou  Wednesday Jun 15 05:16 PM

Not to dampen the mood or anything, but if you read the article the young man in the red shirt is actually an "anti-gay protestor" who was detained, not someone out there marching in support of gay rights.

Can't speculate on what he was doing that made the police decide he needed to be arrested, of course, but just for clarification's sake...

mrnoodle  Wednesday Jun 15 05:27 PM

neither of those pictures features assless leather pants. Where are the assless leather pants? DAMMIT! I want to see heavily mustachioed manly men in assless leather pants.

Good point, but in Poland there was violence(protestors) which begat violence (police) whereas in Washington DC there was only normal muggings and shit.

Why is it that each US "Pride" parade serves to further marginalize the group that wants to instill pride?

Happy Monkey  Thursday Jun 16 07:14 AM

What do you mean?

capnhowdy  Thursday Jun 16 07:45 AM

Most of the pride parades start out that way and wind up being a "protest".
I think people whose lifestyle is not "the norm" would be better off to lurk quietly in the background. But NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.............

It's a freak festival.

It is not a family event, unless your family is already really fucked up.

It is not a means of honoring the accomplishments of people who are doctors, lawyers, police, firefighters, tailors, deli counter workers, etc. who also happen to be gay.

That's what I mean by marginalizing.

I feel the same way about "Pagan Pride Festivals" which usually occur on a much smaller, and much less noticed scale, but have the wierdness turned up too.

Trilby  Thursday Jun 16 11:25 AM

Maybe it's just that the people who are willing to actually BE in a parade are the weirdest ones with the most time? Aren't these things scheduled for mid-day when most people are working or something?

Troubleshooter  Thursday Jun 16 12:45 PM

More to the point, the run of the mill pagans and the fags don't necessarily want to have pride in being a pagan or a fag, they are more or less indifferent to it. They just want to live their life like everyone else.

The flamers and deisel dykes and the crystal waving freaks do more damage than good. At least in my opinion.

Agreed. Most normal (and I use that term very loosely) pagans and homosexuals don't feel the need to get in people's faces with their beliefs. It's the open-ass leather marchers and [Laurie Cabot]black-makeup wearing, goth, "witchy" pagans [/Laurie Cabot] that freak people out and get them up in arms.

Matter of fact, I know several gays who are just as against the flamers as straights are. TS jokes that one of them is the only person he can talk cars with. And as a pagan, I find the Laurie Cabot-types annoying. People see them and think all pagans are goth freaks. I've been accused of being a Pentacostal (long hair, skirts, no makeup) but never of being a goth chick, thank God/dess

It's the wackos who give [insert group here] a bad name...

Atch  Friday Jun 17 09:35 AM

I should really learn to read the text first. For a second I was like, "WHOA, those Polish gays really get into it."

BigV  Friday Jun 17 11:55 AM

HAHAHAhahahahah!
