Undertoad Saturday Apr 17 12:47 PM4/17/2004: Songkran festival
Thai people put powder on the face of a police officer on a street in Prachinburi Province, east of Bangkok, Thailand, on April 13 to celebrate the Songkran festival, Thai New Year.
Yeah, I don't get it either, but apparently the Songkran festival is simply massive. It's the Thai new year, lasts for several days. When I googled around I found that the festival is all about water, not powder; the last day is water-splashing time, and you can't go outside without getting hit with water, splashed, squirted, etc.
Apparently people are learning to put their cellphones in condoms during the festivies, so they don't break when they get wet.
More Songkran. mostly from here:
wolf Saturday Apr 17 01:01 PMThat last bunch look like they've had quite enough of the celebration ... just waiting for it to be over.
Elspode Saturday Apr 17 01:32 PMSo, the Thai New Year is essentially a giant squirt gun fight?
Awesome.
YellowBolt Saturday Apr 17 02:01 PMIs that a monkey I see with a hose? Cool!
xoxoxoBruce Saturday Apr 17 02:09 PMIt looks more like milk (or something) than water. Must be the mixture of the water and powder.
I'm surprised the cops sleeve patch is in English.
blue58 Saturday Apr 17 04:47 PMThis thing looks like a blast! Wish I was there.
Check out the chick in the lower left of the last picture...some people just know how to look NAUGHTY!
xoxoxoBruce Saturday Apr 17 07:08 PMShe looks pissed off, to me.
onetrack Sunday Apr 18 09:20 PMSo what? .. I could join a bunch of street rioting, anti-WTO anarchists and associated greenie lesbians, and get hosed down by truck mounted water cannon .. and get twice as much fun!!
