9/23: Pakistan transportation

This is from Pakistan but it's not a news image; this comes directly from friends of Katkeeper. There have been similar images here but it's still interesting; in a system where not everything is available, you have to be innovative just to get things done.

Imagine standing a few feet further back, and seeing this scene with some western photgrapher eagerly taking a picture before getting back in his Jeep or whatever to drive back to his hotel room.

Now that would be a slightly more amusing picture! ;-)

I have to add that I sent Tony this picture before the recent focus on this part of the world. It is even more interesting now...

I just saw a PBS show about the Sahara desert which had some similar images. Only there, the truck people are the high-tech rich ones. The people being profiled were using hundreds of camels and their feet instead.

(besides, there may be hundreds of them to a truck, but it _IS_ a Mercedes...)

I can imagien, pre disaster Merc turning this into some kind of ad. The mind boggles. By some kind of fluke if have hte same pick i leached off a freind of mine about a week ago.

I can't help wondering what it must smell like - sitting amongst all those people with all there belongings...
