12/3/2003: Slavery protest in India

Interesting protest dep't: these are Indian activists, marking the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery in New Delhi.

And some activists are children: formerly bonded workers, and rescued from lives of slavery by welfare organizations.

Hubris Boy  Wednesday Dec 3 03:55 PM

Damn.

A hundred and forty-odd years from now, their descendants will be demanding reparations from us.

I'm pretty sure it's our fault.

Stonan  Wednesday Dec 3 03:57 PM

With luck the reparations will come from the coffers of the corporations responsible, not the taxpayer...

glatt  Wednesday Dec 3 04:06 PM

Good one! Corporations taking responsibility while the government is controlled by Republicans.

That's funny!

Ghost  Wednesday Dec 3 05:32 PM

Wow, they have really harsh penalties for protesting there.

Modern Day Slavery

iabolish.com-The Anti Slavery Portal

"Forced work for no pay under the threat of violence - this is the reality for millions of people enslaved today around the world. Slavery Today is an interactive overview, designed to both educate and inspire. The following exhibits depict the realities of contemporary slavery - and examine how free people can help end it."

Hey, Ghost, welcome to the Cellar!

xoxoxoBruce  Wednesday Dec 3 06:03 PM

Support slavery = Shop WalMart :p

Gnat  Thursday Dec 4 07:30 AM

That would make for a boring afternoon...

tjennings  Thursday Dec 4 11:43 AM

Hey kids, I know you used to be slaves, you want to be bound and gagged just for old times sake? It'll be a hoot.

MAdMoNKEY  Thursday Dec 4 01:11 PM

I bet the organizers made the protesters do all the work...

Elspode  Thursday Dec 4 10:23 PM

How are they supposed to answer all those Sprint tech support lines with their hands and legs bound up like that?

Thanks...the posts here are waaaay too funny, I had to get me some of that action. Plus I feel strongly about slavery and stuff.

Whit  Friday Dec 5 12:48 AM

I hope those kids protested after their 16 hour work day. Otherwise the cost might go up on my Nike's.

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Dec 5 07:31 PM

Naw, they're all working for Bill Gates.
