Undertoad Saturday Nov 22 02:09 PM11/22/2003: Big Wheels for Iraq
Credit the 101st Public Affairs Office for publishing these, and credit petecart for noticing it and sending it along. This is a batch of Big Wheels, on their way to be delivered to Iraqi kids. It put a big ol' grin on my face and, I would imagine, on the face of anyone whether they were in favor of the war or not.
It's part of a larger gallery of shots here:
http://www.pbase.com/sms/iraq
...an absolutely remarkable gallery, and... I'd really love to hear the stories behind all of these shots.
As far as the toys go, this is a good point to mention that there's a blogger "Chief Wiggles" who started a toys-for-Iraqis drive, and it's blossomed into a full-fledged thing called "Operation Give". More details at www.operationgive.org. You can personally send one of these big wheels, or whatever toy you like, and it can be in the hands of an Iraqi child within days.
Elspode Saturday Nov 22 03:07 PMEven if you don't look at all the pics, at least look at this one. Enviable photograph. It should be seen by many.
xoxoxoBruce Sunday Nov 23 02:16 AMI wonder how much C-4 they could pack into their kids Big-Wheel?
wolf Sunday Nov 23 03:24 PMOnce they get the refineries back online, they won't need these anymore ...
slang Sunday Nov 23 03:43 PMDo they make Big-Wheels for 6 foot tall, 200+ lb kids? Just curious.
wolf Sunday Nov 23 03:51 PMI'm sure we can get you one.
Maybe Sharper Image?
But it would be made out of brushed aluminum and titanium, and the streamers attached to the handlebars will be real silk ... and sell for around $2.5K.

Sure they are. The kids have to get to work somehow.
