Undertoad Tuesday Jun 24 12:37 PM6/24/2003: Nano guitar
What are your nanobots gonna do for entertainment?
According to the text, the strings on this guitar are actual and pluckable, although they would hardly make a noise if something managed to pluck them. Made from silicon crystals. The strings, they say, are 50 nanometers wide; for comparison, the diameter of a human hair is about 200 micrometers, or 200,000 nanometers. The whole guitar is about the size of a human blood cell.
Found here amongst a gallery of other instruments, almost all of which would make an IotD candidate (but won't be, so enjoy).
wolf Tuesday Jun 24 12:49 PMWhen are they going to make a nanoEddieVanHalen to go with that?
wolf Tuesday Jun 24 12:58 PMThere is certainly a lot of cool stuff on there, but I think my favorite is the lego harpsichord.

Wow Bit, does that mean it was Benny Franklin and the Jets?
I can see Dolly Parton hanging over that guitar.
Elspode Wednesday Jun 25 01:06 AMI've seen this one played on TV a long time ago. Amazing, ethereal sound...

richlevy Wednesday Jun 25 01:17 AMThey forgot to mention the theory (rumor) that Franklin gave himself lead poisoning from playing the leaded glass armonica.
