August 27th, 2019 : Fire Down Below

Ladybug ladybug fly away home,
Your forest burning, and children too,
All except one and called Judy,
She was crushed by a falling tree.

Quote:
Brazil’s official numbers now tally more than 79,500 fires this year—more than half of those in the Amazon, making this the “most active fire year in that region since 2010.”
The majority of these fires are intentional, set by farmers and ranchers to clear fields and open up land for grazing.
Looks like it didn't help much, just made a bunch of smoke and got rid of the leaves.

Fire is unhealthy for children and other living things.

Poor snake.

Gravdigr  Tuesday Aug 27 08:51 AM

Fuck snek.

Creepy bastidge.

Diaphone Jim  Tuesday Aug 27 12:55 PM

"Creepy bastidge."
Feel the same about the indigenous humans?

xoxoxoBruce  Wednesday Aug 28 12:43 AM

Aren't we all indigenous, or is nobody indigenous except the couple hundred people living in that same spot in South Africa where we all started?

Flint  Wednesday Aug 28 12:56 PM

Let's not get hung up on vocabulary words. Wherever people are living at this moment in history, it's bad if they are getting kicked out of their homes by force.

But if we don't kick them out we'll never be able to by that third home in London.

xoxoxoBruce  Thursday Aug 29 04:13 AM

It's not just Brazil, and apparently this is normal... average normal.

Greenland?

Undertoad  Thursday Aug 29 10:44 AM

Central Africa, too, if you look at the map of CO2 concentrations

(this link is current, so if you are clicking on it later than August 2019 it might not show the fires)

glatt  Thursday Aug 29 01:30 PM

*Looks at UT's map and thinks "Fucking China"*

But then wait, what's that in Russia, is that nuke fire still burning?

blueboy56  Thursday Aug 29 01:55 PM

At this rate, we'll soon have our own giant desert just like Northern Africa.

xoxoxoBruce  Thursday Aug 29 11:44 PM

South Jersey is no doubt beer farts.

Undertoad  Friday Aug 30 12:23 AM

Actually I was wrong... the Windy map shows CO concentrations.

The earth.nullschool.net map shows CO2 concentrations

Griff  Friday Aug 30 07:37 AM

It's almost like we're all living on the same planet...

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Aug 30 11:27 PM

In the beginning...
