Dec 30th, 2016: Hammer Time

Museums... is there anything they don't collect?
Up in Haines Alaska stands The Hammer Museum, dedicated to preserving the history of humanity’s first tool.

Quote:
From the land of the pharaohs to the land down under, ancient to modern, two inches to twenty feet, the Hammer Museum has
something for everyone and is an experience that cannot be missed.

If Alaska is a little out of your way, the museum posts images of some of their more than 2,000 hammers on their Instagram account.

".... I'd hammer in the morrrrrrning..."

blueboy56  Thursday Dec 29 11:01 PM

Does that mean that you should be hard-headed to live in Alaska?

xoxoxoBruce  Thursday Dec 29 11:36 PM

You nailed it, now beat it.

sexobon  Friday Dec 30 07:39 AM

Does the museum have Mjolnir?

glatt  Friday Dec 30 08:15 AM

Hammers accumulate. You feel wrong throwing out the old, and they just keep showing up.

Snakeadelic  Friday Dec 30 08:48 AM

Many years ago when I still lived in Washington state, I was on welfare and required to be evaluated by either an MD or a psychiatrist every 6 months (over the course of 3 years of this, nobody ever released me to be thrown into the job application mill that was considered an employment program). When I was between homes and thus between MDs, I would go see this one psychiatrist who was semi-retired and pretty much only did evaluations. He was 85 when I saw him, and we would get distracted talking about all kinds of things, like the time John Phillip Sousa played at his college's Homecoming Dance. His name was Dr. Hammer, and in a rare turn of humor, his business sign consisted of 2 claw hammers in an X formation (one had the handle cut in half). And while he wasn't exactly a Pink Floyd fan, he was familiar with the "marching hammers" animation from The Wall and thought it was 'quite well done'.

Gravdigr  Friday Dec 30 01:21 PM

Just watched 'The Wall' the other night.

Hammer time

♪ ♫I climbed in the ring w/Roberto Duran♪ ♫
♪ ♫And the punches began to rain down♪ ♫
♪ ♫He hit me with a dozen hard upper cuts♪ ♫
♪ ♫Then my corner threw in the towel♪ ♫

♪ ♫I asked him why he had to knock me out♪ ♫
♪ ♫And he summed it up real well♪ ♫
♪ ♫He said "I'd rather be the hammer♪ ♫
♪ ♫Than the nail."♪ ♫

glatt  Friday Dec 30 03:35 PM

The hammer on the far left is the only one I bought.

Three others were presents given to me brand new, and the rest just kind of accumulated.

limey  Friday Dec 30 03:53 PM

My favourite hammer (here at Chateau Limey) is like the one that is fourth from the right, lower row ... so cute!

Sent by magic.

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Dec 30 04:27 PM

Cute maybe, but not very good at pulling nails.

sexobon  Friday Dec 30 04:55 PM

Looks like glatt's ready for some tabletop croquet.

That's when I use hammer No. 2 ! Or pliers.

Sent by magic.

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Dec 30 05:35 PM

I see six nail pullers, but none are #2. However, I have complete faith you'll defeat that nail so soundly, it will straighten itself out.

Gravdigr  Saturday Dec 31 11:41 AM

...and not a cross peen in the bunch.

blueboy56  Saturday Dec 31 01:46 PM

Speaking of beating it, (see above), Hammers are forever, unless they are being tested on MythBusters. Ouchee.

What? No banhammer?

BigV  Monday Jan 2 08:02 PM

Oh, it's there.

You just never see it coming.

Gravdigr  Tuesday Jan 3 03:26 PM

I better watch my ass, then.

No one else is going to.

xoxoxoBruce  Tuesday Jan 3 09:20 PM

The ban hammer...

xoxoxoBruce  Thursday Jan 12 01:49 PM

Restoring a 50 year old hammer's leather handle.

glatt  Thursday Jan 12 02:59 PM

nice
