July 1st, 2016: Purple Parking

In Warren Ohio, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, has painted the first purple parking spot reserved for combat wounded veterans.

Quote:
Herman Breuer, director of the Trumbull County Veteran Services Network, said the parking spots are just another way to honor area veterans for their service.
“For the city to recognize veterans by putting out a parking spot for the combat wounded, you know, combat wounded, they should hold a special place in everyone’s heart,” he said. “They spilled blood for our country.”
Kenneth Lewis, state commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, said, as far as he knows, this is the first parking spot of its kind at a government building in the state.
“They’d be proud to park here,” he said. “Fills your heart up.”
Although this is the first purple parking spot designated for combat wounded veterans in the city of Warren, officials say there is more to come. In fact, they will be putting one at every city building.
“We’ll have one at every single building that’s used. So right now, City Hall will have one, the new government services building, the old Gibson building will have one, along with Packard Music Hall,” said Warren Mayor Doug Franklin.

Are they displacing handicapped or abled? I can see a rainbow of reserved parking coming either dicing up the handicapped community and/or moving abled folk further and further away. injured cop hero space, drunk driver hit you bad luck space, you were drunk shame space, high school football what could have been space... It would be great way for a politician to peel off votes and break up the unity. cuz america. We are going to need more spaces though this mid-east shit storm is only going to get worse.

Soon everything will be self-driving ubers anyway, and my grandkids won't even know what "parking" was.

OOoo! Ooo! I know this one!!

They are very close to the corner of the building, with only one additional parking space on the right side of the picture. They are displacing able parking! The front door of the building should be out of frame on the left, and there will be further handicap parking to the left of the space we can see.

I don't drive at all any more (panic attacks + idiots in traffic = NO), and the neighbor who takes me wherever it is I need to get to has a placard for handicap parking. That's the source of my certainty--I've seen the arrangement of handicap parking in hundreds of rural, suburban, and urban parking areas in four states over the last six or seven years.

Once you have them all, only gays can park there.

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Jul 1 05:51 PM

I guess John Kerry can't park there since he gave his three back.

There's a "Veterans Only" signed parking space at the local Lowe's. I will try to remember to get a picture of it on my next trip there.
