May 19th, 2016: MA State Police.

Somebody is driving down the street, sees a MA State Police Car illegally parked, with a guy in a suit sitting on the bumper eating
lunch, along with a woman sitting on the grass. So they take this picture and post in on a basefook group.
Someone else grabbed the picture and passed it on to the State Police.

I can come up with at least a dozen scenarios about the motives of those two people.

This is the word from the State Police basefook page...

Quote:
We were shown this picture from a third-party who had not taken the photo, nor knew anything about it, other than they
thought it was taken in Fall River. After a little digging, we were able to locate the citizen who had taken the photo.
The citizen said the well-dressed Trooper in a suit appeared to be having lunch with a panhandler on Davol Street in Fall River.
The citizen was struck by what he saw, snapped the photo, and posted it to a Facebook group in Fall River, captioned
“And they say chivalry is dead…….Much respect.” We are grateful to that person, who thought to take the photo and share it.

After a little more digging, we found out the trooper is Luke Bonin, who is assigned to the State Police Dartmouth Barracks.
After reaching out to Trooper Bonin, he was a bit surprised that someone had taken his photo, stating that he wasn’t seeking
or expecting any publicity for it. But we pressed him, and he very reluctantly told us how he ended up sitting on his cruiser’s
bumper that day sharing lunch with a stranger.

Trooper Bonin had just left court when he drove by the woman, who appeared down on her luck. She was holding a sign
and asking for help from anyone who would pay attention. Trooper Bonin continued to drive on – directly to a local establishment,
where he ordered two meals. He returned to the woman, pulled up, and exited his cruiser. Thinking he was there to remove her
from the side of the road, she immediately stated to him that she would leave, that she knew she shouldn’t be there with her
sign. But Trooper Bonin told her, “I’m not here to kick you out.” He then extended the two meals and told her to pick one.
They then sat, shared a meal, and a conversation.

Yes, Trooper Bonin, we know you do not want or expect publicity. We know you didn’t want to be noticed, but you were, and
the job is proud of you. We commend you for your selfless act, and for “doing the right thing” for someone less fortunate than
most people.
We have extraordinary troopers on the Massachusetts State Police who conduct themselves honorably, and perform selfless acts,
every day. Most times, it goes unnoticed. But not this day.
I can think of a dozen scenarios about Trooper Bonin's possible motives, but I'll leave it at nice guy doing a good deed because I
may cross paths with Trooper Bonin. Although I will add that through a lot of contact* with the MA State Police, they've always
been professional and fair with me.

*Growing up our town had no cops, so the Staties covered the town.
I read at another site the woman is a homeless single mother of four.

That was a lovely thing to do.

Snakeadelic  Thursday May 19 08:16 AM

Well, I hope someone lets Trooper Bonin know he is officially the only decent thing I've ever personally seen come from MA.

I have a particular problem with Fall River, ironically, which has zero to do with cops. There is a health equipment manufacturer based in that town and employing some of the dumbest, most patronizing "people" it's ever been my misfortune to have to try to communicate with.

Trivia bit for those who didn't know and haven't watched the "Mysteries at the Museum" documentary series: Fall River is also where the Lizzie Borden ax and her father's skull are (or were) on display because it's where the Borden clan lived.

Fall River.

Diaphone Jim  Thursday May 19 12:29 PM

Bruce: "Fall River."?? Right over my head.

BTW, they call him Ol' Iron Butt Bonin, for his ability to sit on a 1/2 inch ledge of bumper.

Fall River, Massachusetts, where the nice trooper had lunch with the lady.

xoxoxoBruce  Thursday May 19 05:53 PM

And where Lizzie Borden lived, not Fall City.

Diaphone Jim  Thursday May 19 07:46 PM

Am I getting every other post here?
Who said anything about Fall City?
Ah, I see it. It is sort of not there in the edited fine print.
You could be at this all day if you read that crap.
Even looking closer didn't help much.

xoxoxoBruce  Thursday May 19 11:50 PM

Can you see Snakeadelic's post #3, talking about Fall City?
Are you reading this on a phone?

Griff  Friday May 20 07:37 AM

DJ read after the edit, I assume.

Good on this trooper. Serve and protect, he gets it.

xoxoxoBruce  Friday May 20 12:36 PM

OK, you're right, I didn't see the edit. She snuck that in while I went to check on Lizzie Borden, as I had it in my head Lizzie lived up near the NH border.
