November 13th, 2015: The Sailing Game is Rigged

On Veteran's Day I read an excellent piece on The Whiskey Rebellion. Intrigued, I followed links to the source, and it turns out to be an artist who does cartoons and illustrates graphic novels of his own and others. Looking through his archives, shows renderings of bits and pieces of his work, where I found two things. First, he's really really good, secondly these two illustrations for the rigging on old timey sailing ships.

Hollywood depicts sailors, especially pirates, as rather dim drunken hooligans lollygagging around the ship. If that were so, who the hell handled this rigging which had to be adjusted frequently... without labels. Movies also show sailors and pirates casually bonking people with belaying pins. I think they'd have to be pretty desperate to yank one of those pins, which are holding the rigging fast, and trying to sort it out later. Must have had spare bonking pins.

I wanted to compliment the guy on the Whiskey Rebellion piece, and his artwork, but the only way I could find is a "ask a question" link. What a cluster fuck, first I ran out of available space, rewrote, next try, no links allowed, rewrote. Prove you're not a robot... in half dozen tries the box of 9 pictures to find the fish or cookies is too small, or runs off the screen. Grrr. It tells me the only option is to sign in. Click. Sign up to tumbler to sign in, Grrr. Now if you know me, you know I never sign up for shit, therefore you know when I signed up I was seriously trying to make contact. We sent you an email to confirm your address. Go to Gmail, send back the stinkin' verification. Set up your dashboard, pick 5 favorite catagories, blah, blah, blah. Fuck this go back to the ask me box. BLANK. Shows me signed in, rewrite the whole message, push send. Nope, won't do diddly squat.
Goddamnmotherfuckingsonofabitch, steal pictures and stomp out kicking a puppy and shoving a sweet little old lady into a trash can..

Yes, I know it's Friday. If you're hungry, see LJ, he'll tell you to eat a dick.

Just now realized it's not only Friday, it's Friday The Thirteenth.

Hasn't been a bad Friday the 13th so far ... and this stuff you found is fantastic, Bruce. Thanks! Great Friday night reading.

Thank you, happy to distract you from the black cat walking under the ladder by the broken mirror.
