February 15, 2015: Icehenge

"Five guys built Icehenge on a lake and it is beautiful!" reports the Eli Weidel Photo and Design blog. (Eli Weidel Photography gets the photography credit here. Go there for the complete gallery.)

The effort was carried out by these five gents from Lake Mills, WI, on Rock Lake there; they report that the effort required

Quote:
cutting out sections of the lake’s ice as the pillars, weighing about 300 pounds each, with a large ice cutting saw. Then they cut sections of the ice weighing around 200 pounds and lifted them on top of the pillars. A mix of snow and water was used as mortar to keep the pieces together. With almost perfect weather this year, the five were able to put it all together in just two weekends!

They also report

Quote:
Update: The Icehenge has been taken down due to the warm temperatures and safety issues.
But I guess not reported so sadly. After all it was guaranteed to be a temporary installation.

They didn't have planning permission for the carpark and gift shop.
