June 5, 2013 - Fiddle Oak

Quote:
As for how the photos come together, he explains his process: “I shoot what I call the background — the scene, without props, first. Often it’s a collage of multiple pictures. Then I try to match the lighting of that picture and take pictures of people in the right position to be in the pictures, then I shrink them in Photoshop and change the colors so they match the background a little bit better, then I do overall color editing to make them match. It takes a long time.”

I have some working level experience with Photoshop. And I can tell you that when photographer says: "It takes a long time.", he means it. Its a total new form of art and requires every bit of skill and concentration to achieve the desired results.
Though I will say I have seen even better ones but still the photos are quite nicely done.

Yeah, doing a high quality photoshop can take some time.

The squirrel one looks a little off to me. The squirrel is in softer focus than the woman on its neck. The depth of field is so narrow for the squirrel that only the front of the ears are really in focus. And the woman is behind the ears. She should be out of focus more. She just doesn't fit in that image.

The boy with the oversize feathers is fantastic.

I have to admit, had I asked for a bespoke photo of me riding a squirrel (hey, I can dream) I wouldn't have been entirely happy with the result.

But I agree that the Icarus picture is literally wonderful.

Fiddle Oak reminds me of Fiddler's Green, personified in The Sandman as GK Chesterton.
I used to know The Rolling English Road by heart you know.
(Well, mostly. I rarely forget anything I have completely committed to memory.)

i agree ON THE squirrel focus. Good point.

I think maybe the best picture is the one "Fly Away". Fabulous.

I hadn't bothered to go to the link before. Why didn't you say the kid is only 14? These are very impressive for a 14 year old.

Sundae  Thursday Jun 6 09:42 AM

14?!
I take it all back.
The only reason I would be paying a 14 year old would be to go and fetch my beer.
(joking of course)
We are looking at the genesis of a real artist.

Ok, not bad at all for fourteen year old. Way to go.
