November 20, 2012 - Bubble Castle

here's a bit more bubbly . . .

(I think it should be called the Googgely Eye house.)

This abode, dubbed the Bubble Castle, is near Cannes in the South of France. It is the fantasy palace for Pierre Cardin who spends his summers basking in the wonder of his 10 suites (all decorated by different artists - which happens to be one of my dreams) and 8500 m2 (square meters) of garden.

I'm sure his architect, Finnish Antti Lovag, had a great deal of fun designing all 1200 sq meters of the Bubble Castle. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall of his office to watch his creativity at work. (I wonder how many mushrooms it takes to dream up a castle like this.)

And we musn't forget the fabulous views . . .

This gem was discovered on Shelterness, a home design blog.

How do they hang pictures if the walls aren't flat?

Hee. I like it. I wouldn't raze it and build a ranch house if someone gave me a bubble castle, anyway. Yeah, i could live there.

It looks to me like an invasive fungating growth. Too bad; the architect's ego ruins a gorgeous setting.

If you can afford the house, you can afford to commission the artist to paint the picture directly on the wall.

Who's the genius that decided to mount big magnifying lenses in the ceiling, between the sun and the people inside?

The Ant God.
