July 18, 2012 - Through the Looking Glass

Alice Through the Looking Glass is one of the series photographer Elena Kalis has shot underwater. See the entire Alice serieshere.

DanaC  Wednesday Jul 18 02:19 PM

Oh, I love it!

Must send a link to our Martin. He'll be blown away.

Sundae  Wednesday Jul 18 02:22 PM

That is a gorgeous sequence of photos. Some I would be happy to have on the walls of my fictional penthouse.

The above isn't the best of them. Between the closed eyes and clenched fists I feel Alice is struggling into her new dimension. But there are ones which are effortless enough to be sublime.

Thanks Cali.

DanaC  Wednesday Jul 18 02:22 PM

I've just been and seen the series of them. They're truly wonderful, veryarresting, really quirky...

But... there are one or two thatmake me feel just a little uncomfortable. There's something slightly sexual about some of the images, and it jars a little with the apparent age of the subject.

Gravdigr  Wednesday Jul 18 03:36 PM

If it was my kid, I might have a bit of a problem with the turtle shell pic, and there might be a little too much leg shown in some of the shots, but, I wouldn't be terribly concerned about it.

DanaC  Wednesday Jul 18 03:37 PM

It was the turtle pic I was thinking about in particular. And the legginess.

Like I say, I think they;re gorgeous. Just one or two that gave me pause.

xoxoxoBruce  Wednesday Jul 18 11:51 PM

I don't understand the objection to either of the turtle shell pictures.

classicman  Thursday Jul 19 12:00 AM

nor do I. Legginess? You're both pervs.

Clodfobble  Thursday Jul 19 12:55 PM

I think it's the potential implication that she's naked behind the turtle shell... except you can clearly see straps on her shoulders. There are also a few shots where, were she above water, her "underwear" would be visible, but given that it's in a pool the mind assumes "swimsuit." The tone of these pictures all seemed fine to me.

orthodoc  Friday Jul 20 01:17 AM

It's not the 'legginess' that disturbs me, it's the skirt blown up around her hips along with the over-the-knee stockings and the forward flexing ... I wouldn't be comfortable seeing my daughter as the subject of some of these pics. As you say, Dana, it's the age of the subject.

Aliantha  Friday Jul 20 01:38 AM

I don't see any sexualisation in those pictures at all, and with young girls wearing dresses, you have to have pretty sedate girls for them not to be showing off their undies half the time. I don't see any that make me feel they're inappropriate. They seem like pretty natural types of poses for kids at play to me.

SPUCK  Friday Jul 20 06:47 AM

I'm pretty impressed with the model's moxie. Some of those poses are not easy to achieve.

The title of the project is "Alice in Waterland and Looking Glass Stories".
