Lower lip piercing.
Upper lip piercing.
Quote:
The Mursi are a Sub-Saharan African nomadic cattle-herding tribe from an isolated region of southwestern Ethiopia close to the Sudanese border. The Mursi women are famous of wearing plates in their lower lips – though photographs indicate that, in fact, either lip may be pierced. This practice is supposed to have originated as a means of detering slave-traders; as the lips are not pierced until girls are aged fifteen or sixteen this seems unlikely. The lip discs are made of clay and, yes, they are removed for eating.

As if these images aren't fantastic enough, check this out:
Just another Mursi woman?
No, not really. She is made up to look like a Mursi woman. She is really not Mursi.
She is not even black! She has blonde hair and blue eyes.
Here she is without make up:
Here are some images from the makeup process:

HungLikeJesus Thursday Mar 8 01:44 PMMursi, Mursi me. Things aren't what they used to be.
wolf Thursday Mar 8 01:55 PMI'm surprised the plate in the lip look hasn't caught on with the body mod crowd. I mean you could do all sorts of things with it. Flashing chaser lights so it looks like it's rotating, embedded mp3 player and speakers. Nacho tray. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination and your willingness to pursue increasingly larger gauges..
Gravdigr Thursday Mar 8 03:24 PMIf this is supposed to be the same woman, I call shenanigans. Look at the lips. They're completely different.

This isn't mission difficult, it's mission impossible. "Difficult" should be a walk in the park.

I agree! Look back up at the picture that has a mirror to the right. I think we see the "blond white girl" applying makeup to someone else.
Clodfobble Friday Mar 9 01:24 PMI think her lips look different in the picture on the left because the face mask is partially plastered over her lower lip. The eyes look the same to me.
However, there's one shot (third from the bottom in the original post) where her eyes appear brown. Not sure what that's about. Could just be screwy camera lighting.
glatt Friday Mar 9 01:54 PMOr contacts to complete the costume.
jimhelm Friday Mar 9 02:35 PMI've seen these women with it in their bottom lip. Never in the top. seems like that would be a huge pain in the ass to live with in either lip, but more so in the top. how are you gonna drink from a can of coke? you're not! can't smoke a pipe, can't give a BJ, can't blow a raspberry, can't even smile properly.
Gravdigr Friday Mar 9 04:13 PMPhiltrum. That's what I should've said. Their philtrums are too different.
Quote:
wikipedia: The philtrum,...is a medial cleft common to many mammals, extending from the nose to the upper lip, and, together with a glandular rhinarium and slit-like nostrils, is believed to constitute the primitive condition for mammals in general. For humans and most primates, the philtrum survives only as a vestigial medial depression between the nose and upper lip. The human philtrum, bordered by ridges, is also known as the infranasal depression, but has no apparent function.
