December 3, 2011 Nyamulagira Volcano

It doesn't seem like it to me, but that lava eruption in the background is 65-stories-tall.

With the ranger standing in front, it reminds me of pictures of Christians receiving the gift of tongues from the Holy Spirit, represented by tongues of fire on their heads.

It looks like the cover of a video game. Call of Duty 9: Eruption.

BTW, I had to look it up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyamuragira . It's in the Republic of Congo. Which means if you're standing around watching that, being near a volcano is the least of your problems.

I would love to see an erruption like that one day. That and the aurora. I'm making this list ...

I've ticked off total solar eclipse, but I'd like to see another.
