June 27, 2011: Where's the beach?

This is at a beach just a few hours north of where I live. It's the jumping off point to get to Fraser Island (largest sand Island in the world and heritage listed) by barge. I'm still checking the updated status of this phenomenon but it's just mind boggling.

Basically in laymans terms, a huge sinkhole has opened up and pretty much swallowed the beach.

Not sure where the 4WD's are going to drive now.

What is it about people that makes them say, "This natural phenomenon is large, unpredictable, and extremely dangerous. Let's stand right near the edge."

Aliantha  Sunday Jun 26 08:11 PM

We all think it'll never happen to us. I mean, who expects to be swallowed up by a sinkhole? Really??

monster  Sunday Jun 26 09:49 PM

Do you have a picture of what it looked like before?

Aliantha  Sunday Jun 26 09:50 PM

I'll have a look and see what I can find.

Aliantha  Sunday Jun 26 09:59 PM

Check out this link. It gives a better perspective.

Don't know if it was intentional or not, but your thread title is an excellent play on some American advertising from the 1980s.

Yeah I know Wolf. It was intentional.

Yea, unless you are standing on the very edge of a sink hole with a camera and a beer.

ZenGum  Monday Jun 27 03:37 AM

Where's the beach?

That damn penguin ate it.

They all learned it from War of the Worlds! Remember?

"What's this giant hole in the middle of the street that's opening?"
"I need to get closer."

"What's coming out of the hole?"
"I need to get closer."

"Golly, it's really menacing."
"I need to get closer."

"I better stand around until.."

Awwww, that got me all choked up when I read about it.
Miles away from home, lost and hungry, eating the beach because it thinks it's snow [sob]

That sinkhole was not what I expected.
Less dramatic. But probably more dangerous.
Look out Cairns.

Like mah ole' buddy Rupert used to say, "Gravity don't exist, the whole earth sucks."
(Or something like that there)

casimendocina  Tuesday Jun 28 08:21 AM

Mind boggling.
