May 1st, 2011:May Day 100 years ago at the University of Missouri, 1911 tombstone Sunday May 1 08:58 PM When I was in the fifth grade--I'm 67 now--our school celebrated May Day and while 6th grade had the May Queen and court, the fifth graders danced around the Maypole, boy and girl couples. Kids were encouraged to leave small bouquets on neighbor's doorsteps. I'm sorry to see the custom fade away.
