Dec 5, 2010: The Emperor's New Art

Some people seem to be unhappy with the Arts Council England, for spending about $2500 to bring artist Agnieszka Kurant's show to England.

Here's the painting.

Quote:
Warsaw-based Kurant's Snow Black exhibition also had "an invisible sculpture" and "a movie shot with no film in the camera".
~
Culture Department officials insisted there were "substantial benefits for English artists and audiences".
Well sure, probably very few English artists know how to paint nothing.

Art. Sheesh.

This is just lovely. It reminds me of John Cage's amazing classical composition, 4'33":

Adak  Sunday Dec 5 06:02 AM

Another great art exhibit!

If I just didn't have a brain, I'm sure I could enjoy this one, also.

Sundae  Sunday Dec 5 07:42 AM

It's conceptual art. It means nothing to me, but I'm not an artist.

And £1,700 is nothing compared to the £15million spent on the World Cup bid for 2018, where FIFA... well, I won't say it in IoTD. But butt and mouth feature. Seriously - the best bid, proven to have the best potential for profit, the home of football, the country that put the most back into the game worldwide... And we got 2 votes. One from our own candidate.

Shocking. The Eurovision Song Contest has nothing on this.

nil_orally  Sunday Dec 5 08:09 AM

Don't feel too bad, Ms Sundae. We spent $46 million, and got one vote.

Maybe we should have bought a better class of whore for them when they were here doing the site inspections.

I can't believe that such a corrupt and sercretive organisation can really exist in this time and day. I mean where's the Dan Brown blockbuster book/ movie about them?

They have about as much integrity as Silvio "better to admire beautiful women than be gay" Berlusconi. He's corrupt and appalling, but he's up front about it. Sepp "no goal-line cameras" Blatter thinks he's a Medici Prince.

Scriveyn  Sunday Dec 5 09:32 AM

"Conceptual Football" would be so much cheaper*: no pitch, no stadium, no players and no ball. Everybody is free to imagine the game and the winner.

*and with a zero carbon footprint

I was sure somebody by now would have pointed out that it is upside-down.

Shush, jokes on them.

coolcat  Sunday Dec 5 10:38 PM

I see it now!

It's a painting of a polar bear in a snowstorm.

...drinking milk.

If you're going to do nothing, you should at least get it per reviewed and published.

This is real, I checked. I only wish I had thought of it first.
