Nov 25, 2010: Banana Boat

Come, Mister tally man, tally me banana.
Daylight come and me wan' go home.

No, not that banana boat...

This, banana boat.

Quote:
Danish artist Jacob Dahlstrup builds miniature boats from bananas, which he entitles simply banana boats. He uses ripe bananas, wood, pins, anchors and fabric to create these vessels. His work is, without any doubt, of great originality, but it makes me wonder: how much does it last? Does he change the bananas after a couple of days or the bananas are left to become rotten for a more piratish look?
Nope, pirates ain't yellow.

Artists will do what they think is art. We love them for that.

Even if their art looks like a banana boat version of Mr. Potato-Head. I think I was expecting something more realistic. For the love of bananas, man, trim the selvage on those sails!

SteveDallas  Thursday Nov 25 10:32 AM

I was hoping for a banana split.

Diaphone Jim  Thursday Nov 25 12:20 PM

I could be wrong, but that rigging looks very much like the stuff that comes on the cheapo, fako $10 (+ s&h) models advertised on late night shopping channels.
Where's the art?
A waste of a good banana, IMO.

That guy has plantain on the brain.

Banana Boat is the nickname of one of Rhys's friends in Torchwood.
He gets eaten by an alien (in both senses of the word) in a rather messy scene set during Gwen & Rhys's wedding.

Never did work out what the nickname referred to.
Perhaps he collected this chap's work...?

Didja hear about the new pirate movie? Huh? Didja?

It's rated ARRRRRRRRRRRRR!

In a move with a huge amount of irony, I found that one of my cable channels (Starz or Showtime) added the pron movie Pirates to On Demand sometime in the last 30 days or so.

I wonder if they did it on 'talk like a pirate' day.

I do know a guy who might already have a pirated copy.
