xoxoxoBruce Tuesday Oct 26 12:10 AM Oct 26,2010: Professional Cars
From ProfessionalCar.Org;
Quote:
A professional car is loosely defined as a custom-bodied vehicle, based on passenger car styling, and used in the funeral, rescue or livery services. Such vehicles may be hearses, flower cars, service cars, ambulances, limousines, or cars which are special built to combine two or more of these different functions, such as combination hearse-ambulances, sedan ambulances or invalid coaches. These body styles are all hand built. The commercial chassis and the front and rear clips of these cars are the only thing they have in common with their factories of origin. The roof, glass, and doors are all manufactured by expert craftsmen.
|
Of course like everything else, there are people who passionately restore and collect them.
Quote:
Next time you pass by a hearse or a limousine, study the design, and see the designers are able to maintain fluid proportions on such a long wheelbase. For many professional car enthusiasts, these vehicles are the epitome of automobile design.
|
Like I said, passionately.
Now one guy, Fernando Aguerre, has found and started to restore this pair of '42 Cadillacs, a hearse and a flower car, in Argentina.
Quote:
We recently made the acquaintance of Fernando Aguerre, a surfer who lives in California, but who also keeps a sizeable car collection in his native Argentina. While all of the cars in his collection are impressive, his latest two additions – a pair of 1942 Cadillacs – are certainly the most unique.
Fernando said he’s not sure who transformed them into a hearse and a flower car, but whoever it was certainly had a patience and a skill for woodworking: Both cars feature elaborate hand-carved wood bodies from the cowl back, each with its own unique swirl and wave patterns.
|
He started with the flower car. Here the body work is finished and paint applied, ready for electrical and mechanical work, although he said the engines run very well. That's far from the finish paint on there, just good enough to check for flaws in the body work.
They were found in a "barn", along with a pair of horse drawn vehicles of very similar design.
Of course they are one of a kind, but even the cars they were built from are rare, any 1942 American non-military vehicle is rare.

xoxoxoBruce Tuesday Oct 26 01:17 AMAsk the guy walking behind it if his mule is for sale.
casimendocina Tuesday Oct 26 02:39 AMAmazing.
Trilby Tuesday Oct 26 01:15 PMShades of Animal House.
Diaphone Jim Tuesday Oct 26 07:50 PMI am afraid I can't figure out the mule reference.
Googling it only comes back here.
xoxoxoBruce Wednesday Oct 27 12:18 AMAn old hillbilly farmer had a wife who nagged him unmercifully. From morning til night (and sometimes later), she was always complaining about something. The only time he got any relief was when he was out plowing with his old mule. He tried to plow a lot.
One day, when he was out plowing, his wife brought him lunch in the field. He drove the old mule into the shade, sat down on a stump, and began to eat his lunch. Immediately, his wife began haranguing him again. Complain, nag, nag; it just went on and on.
All of a sudden, the old mule lashed out with both hind feet; caught her smack in the back of the head. Killed her dead on the spot.
As he was walking behind the hearse, on the way to the cemetery, men and women would approach him for a moment then fade back to the curb. At the cemetery the minister spoke to the old farmer, and asked him what the people were saying.
The old farmer said, "Well, the women would come up and say something about how nice my wife looked, or how pretty her dress was."
"And what about the men?" the minister asked.
"They wanted to know if the mule was for sale."

xoxoxoBruce Wednesday Oct 27 10:28 AMThe question is, the guy that went to the trouble and expense of painting that hearse... is he stupid enough to believe it, or clever enough to fool stupid people into believing it? Could be both?
spudcon Wednesday Oct 27 10:36 AMObviously he has enough money to buy and paint a hearse. If he chooses to demonstrate his right to free speech, he isn't stupid. How many millions did George Soros waste trying to get Kerry elected? That was a much bigger case of stupidity. And he continues to support stupid ideas to this day.

The fact that one exercises their free speech does not reflect in any way on their intelligence.
You could say "If he chooses to demonstrate his right to free speech, he isn't necessarily stupid." And then that would be correct.
xoxoxoBruce Wednesday Oct 27 11:08 AMForget it glatt, he's already tried to misdirect the conversation away from something he can't defend.

Because the 2nd 4 years of Bush were so good for the country?
Diaphone Jim Wednesday Oct 27 12:57 PMThanks, Bruce. Funny.
I also have to say the "painted hearse" exchange was confusing until I opened up the comment page: Spudcon's pic did not come up on the original page, only here.
xoxoxoBruce Wednesday Oct 27 03:08 PMYeah, his picture won't appear on the blog view most people see.

Obviously Bruce thinks it does reflect that way, only because the hearse guy wasn't reflecting his philosophy.

Would 4 years of Kerry have been any better? Moot point, no one knows. I do know that Soros is also supporting ACORN, whose attempts to corrupt our democracy are not good for our country.

Putting thugs outside polling places, sending thugs to tea party functions and roughing up participants, helping people import underage prostitutes. There's more, but it all gets ignored by the media. How come those mean people don't suck?

You apparently don't understand what glatt said.
Not philosophy, fact.
The obvious message from that picture, is the health care legislation is going to result in people dying. The old death panel lie regurgitated, which the guy is stupid enough to believe, or hopes other people are stupid enough to believe.
spudcon Thursday Oct 28 01:18 AMApparently I got a different message from that picture. I interpreted that it meant that Obama care is going down the tubes next year, because a majority of Americans are fed up with the fact that not a soul in the Senate or the House read the damn bill, and passed it anyway. It costs more than we can afford, and how do you guys know there isn't any death panel in there? No one knows what it says, except the staffers who made it up, and the bureaucrats who will be hired to force it all on us.
It will be repealed.

I don't see any rope, except the rope around the necks of the kids who will not have a shot at the American dream, because America has overspent on all the socialist bullshit. You guys explain to them in 20 years how we became a 3rd world debtor nation.
xoxoxoBruce Thursday Oct 28 01:29 AMNo it won't, the republicans won't have the votes.

Not to mention Obama would veto any bill that repeals it.
Republicans are getting all cocky since they think they are going to win big this election. They may win control of the House, and maybe even the Senate, but if they do, all they will be winning is gridlock.

Because the only agument that it is in there is "maybe it's in there, it's quite long."
It's not that long. If the death panel were in there, someone would have found it.
Shawnee123 Thursday Oct 28 12:02 PMSaw a bumper sticker yesterday:
We already have death panels: they're called insurance companies.

You mean like the kajillion lawyers on staff on both sides? Yeah, that's what they DO! The whole "no one read it" thing is one of the most laughable things I've heard coming down the "I heard it so it must be true" pike.

They didn't actually do any of that. Except possibly "more", as that wasn't defined.
ZenGum Friday Oct 29 04:08 AMSomebody please kill this #$%&ed up thread now. It's a goddamn pimped out antique hearse picture. That is all.

xoxoxoBruce Friday Oct 29 11:54 AM"Let me tell what that means" Yeah sure, just make up shit and say that's what it means.
What it really means is they're going to take those decisions away from the insurance companies, who are only worried about the bottom line, to make sure you're not getting substandard treatment.
'I've been a doctor for 30 years and I know best'. Uh no, because you've been busy trying to make enough money to pay all those school loans, and keep up with the Joneses, so you haven't had time to keep abreast of the latest treatments, nor their success rate.
At least God doesn't think he's a doctor.

'I've been a doctor for 30 years and I know best'. Uh no, because you've been busy trying to make enough money to pay all those taxes and lawyers fees to protect against frivolous malpractice lawsuits, instigated by shysters like John "Breck Boy" Edwards. Of course the health care bill does nothing about tort reform, which is the major reason for escalating health care costs.
At least the doctor doesn't think he's a politician.

I agree with that much, but there's a reason for that... Congress is full of lawyers.
spudcon Saturday Oct 30 07:16 PMwhich is why we must toss the entire crowd of them out.
xoxoxoBruce Saturday Oct 30 07:35 PMBut not replace them with something worse, like people that are there only to be disruptive, refuse to discuss solutions, can't compromise. Or people that are controlled by party politics, and don't consider what's good for their constituents, and the country. People wearing blinders, who don't understand the ramifications of their actions, or the possible unintended consequences.
The old catch-22, anybody that wants the job, shouldn't be trusted with it.
spudcon Sunday Oct 31 03:18 AMThe old catch-22, anybody that wants the job, shouldn't be trusted with it.
That's why the ones who make it a career have to go. There are several I'll be voting for that aren't the same old shit, who want to limit the career guys, and don't want to stay themselves.
xoxoxoBruce Sunday Oct 31 04:14 AMAw, they all say that in the beginning.
HungLikeJesus Sunday Oct 31 02:51 PMI'm going to write in xoBruce for Colorado governor.
