July 20, 2010: Pine Tree Cozy

JasonMac73 posted this picture on Wunderground, of the South Holston Dam area, near Bristol, TN.

Mother Nature's little helpers, made a cozy for this Pine tree overhanging the water.

Bet it's real pretty, loaded with dew, when the sun comes up.

Gravdigr  Tuesday Jul 20 06:44 AM

Wanna see someone walk on water? Let me look up to find myself under that monstrosity.

Trilby  Tuesday Jul 20 06:47 AM

ACK! Spider houses!!!

RUUUUUUUUUUUUN!

spudcon  Tuesday Jul 20 07:14 AM

Or are they tent caterpillars?

jano  Tuesday Jul 20 08:25 AM

This is one of the first times I have said to myself, "So What". You people must live in a cellar. I must be strange, I "work" outside in the heat and cold. I see probably "ooo aahhh" things that never get photographed and I really think everyone has seen that. What would you like to see black widow spiders, dirt dobbers, yellow jackets, red wasps, rattlesnakes, copperheads, fire ants? Step away from your computers and go outside!

somebody woke up on the wrong side of the batcave.

Shawnee123  Tuesday Jul 20 08:49 AM

Seriously. There aren't even any dead kittehs in this one!

classicman  Tuesday Jul 20 09:18 AM

Does it matter? Eww either way!!

It depends on what someone is expecting in a picture. jano was obviously looking for information... something new, different, maybe exciting. This image isn't about information, it's about composition. The delicate threads of the webs against the gnarly Pine, the sheen of the fisherman's wake against the misty brown water. Things most of us have seen, together in one picture, that JasonMac73 took the time and trouble to capture.

He took this picture too...

It's also very good, but I like the first picture better, and since I took the time and trouble to find and post it, it's my choice.

Shawnee123  Tuesday Jul 20 09:55 AM

Ohhh, that is why it's called Image of the Day and not "Pitchers of things you ain't never done seen before" of the Day.

No.

I have a computer so I can look of pictures of the outside without actually having to go where there are spiders and bugs.

Heat AND cold? No thanks. I like it here in my cellar, which is musty and cool year-round.

I'm curious why you made the extra effort to put the word 'work' in quotation marks.

Clodfobble  Tuesday Jul 20 12:09 PM

Jano's just taken aback because the cute animal pics usually come on Friday. The question is, are we supposed to eat the spiderwebs, or the fisherman?

Jano was being sarcastic?

I think that's a Baby Ruth bar.

Tick  Tuesday Jul 20 09:47 PM

Excellent rendering. The fog is just ho-hum, but the pine tree effect is superb!

spudcon  Wednesday Jul 21 02:13 AM

Shawnee, I stand corrected!
