April 14, 2010: Scam Virus

If this image appears on your screen, it's a scam virus. Treat it accordingly.
If you click on it, you'll be redirected to a site that demands you pay $400 by credit card to settle up, and prevent being subpoenaed.
Don't do it.

These bastards are playing on the paranoia generated by recent lawsuits, and legislation, in the news. Ironically, they're in copyright violation by using the emblems of those trade groups across the bottom of the image.

Responsible Netizen

I hate to get snarky but a give-away is the typo on "recieve" (sb "receive.")

ZenGum  Wednesday Apr 14 07:08 AM

Hi there netizen e065702.

Snark away, snark away. Mind if we call you e06?

capnhowdy  Wednesday Apr 14 07:10 AM

Welcome to the Cellar, e065702.
And subpoena.

Ooops, I see Capn beat me to it.

Wow, where to begin? There are so many red flags here, it's rediculous. Aside from the spelling errors, what about grammatical inconsistencies? Ending one sentence with a period, but not ending the second with anything? Using the word "You'll" instead of "You will"? "Copyright fund has received report" and "You'll recieve subopena" are both missing an article, such as "a" or "the". And "You are seriously violating copyright" just doesn't sound right at all, maybe "You are in violation of copyright law"?

*sigh*

It's amazing what some people will fall for when fear sets in.

Shawnee123  Wednesday Apr 14 08:20 AM

Well, it certainly is ridiculous.

Sheldonrs  Wednesday Apr 14 09:21 AM

What have you people got against free enterprise?!!!
Now send me my damn money!!!!!

Shawnee123  Wednesday Apr 14 09:22 AM

Shel, you have a sub-pena?

Your statue of limitations, then?

HungLikeJesus  Wednesday Apr 14 10:46 AM

And yet some question why good grammar and spelling are important.

newtimer  Wednesday Apr 14 10:56 AM

Based on the author's mistakes and writing style, anybody care to guess where he's from? I'm betting on Russia because when I read the message out loud, I'm reminded of Boris Badenov.

"We have received report on violation. Will give you subopena. Where are moose and squirrel?"
