Sept 9, 2009: Heaven Of Delight

Heaven Of Delight, believe it or not, is the name of this ceiling.
The ceiling is in the Royal Palace, in Brussels.

Pretty spiffy room, and that ceiling ain't no home depot wallpaper, it was done with...

Yes, it took the artist Jan Fabre, and a team of around 30 people, 4 months to glue
1.6 million beetle shells to the ceiling.

A dropped ceiling would have been a whole lot cheaper.

Yes the last Jewel Beetle went into that..

Aways nice when some artist kills thousands of some animal.
"But it's art!"

Now Mediterranean fruit flies, or apple maggots? Yes!

Just call Mr. Double Standard.

Imagine what would happen if the Orkin Man walked in.

I would think that eventually people will start finding little beetle bits in their drinks.

sperm? You can make art with sperm? (other than creating a person)

What do you think Monica....

Oh, nevermind.

If you follow the Jackson Pollock school of abstract expressionism? It's sort of like that, a spatter and drip method.

I don't want to be there the day that the glue fails.

And much more American. Why make it beautiful when you you can make it cheap?
