9/4/2002: Fried spider vendor

During the violent and deadly Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia, desperate refugees learned to eat spiders. Now, some 20 years later, Cambodians not only eat them but consider them a national delicacy. And so here we have Sim Yong, spider vendor, offering his selection of the fried version of the insects.

Arachnids - Yum! (Think Lobster)

I wouldn't swallow one of these in my entire life(willingly), much less 3 per year. Eech.

Um not insects. Arachnids. Eight legs. Different body structure. OK.

Lobster vs bugs

I think the real reason that spiders ae inferior to losters is the shell::meat ratio.

Besides, have you ever seen a nutcracker and fork set small enough to extract the meat from one of those?

I think you are supposed to steam those anyways.

I bet the hairy ones hold melted butter better than lobster though.
