July 2, 2009: Great Britain

Great Britain = stiff upper lip, stand in a queue, tea & crumpets, pip pip and all that.
Very staid and proper people, you know.
Bullshit, here are secret spy photos of normal daily life in Britain.

Well actually they're pictures from The Museum of British Folklore.
The museum is attempting to catalog and display examples of Britain's long, rich tradition of (crazy) folklore.

They've even captured some of Elspode's kindred spirits.

I guess Merry Olde England is right.

Sundae  Thursday Jul 2 09:21 AM

One of many reasons why The Wicker Man worked in it's original setting, but not when transplanted to America.

Is that the Doctor (far right) in the first picture?

Long crazy tradition of men in dresses? I never would have guessed. Oh wait not counting the "comedy" sketches.

xoxoxoBruce  Thursday Jul 2 12:01 PM

I don't know if she's a doctor or not, in the first picture?

I think the guy with the dress, blackface and hat, is decorated with flowers and hops, which would explain the rest.

My apols, she looks like John Pertwee on my screen.

spudcon  Thursday Jul 2 04:31 PM

I've never heard of the Brits doing anything silly or outrageous.

Sundae  Thursday Jul 2 05:50 PM

Where did you get that photo of Margaret Thatcher? She looks so young!

Elspode  Thursday Jul 2 06:33 PM

I'm guessing a lot of those people are Pagan.

No, we're a very boring lot.

boodoggy  Thursday Jul 2 07:33 PM

That guy in the second picture looks like he just learned he was losing his job at Chotchke's because he doesn't wear the required number of pieces of flair.

Wombat  Thursday Jul 2 07:40 PM

well spotted Bruce, those are hops.

The green people are at a Pagan love feast, that's why I said they were your kindred spirits.

Elspode  Friday Jul 3 01:55 AM

Is it me, or is that straw man (who is clearly putting forth a straw man argument to the gent in the bowler) sporting a big, grassy set of swinging balls?

diminished  Friday Jul 3 02:34 AM

That takes me back.

When I were a young'un,we were so poor,we had to sell our straw man.

I think you're right, Sundae, it is John Pertwee. And the little guy kneeling on the grass next to him is going pee pee.
