8/29/2002: Tomatina festival

It's time once again for the Spanish food fight festival, where the idea is to wing as many tomatoes at your buddies as possible, where "as many as possible" includes all the fruit you're standing up to your knees in.

The South African sustainability conference did not weigh in on the practice. My neighbor did though... she has too many of the things. I'll take 'em all. There's nothing like a homegrown tomato. They are awesome.

In the immortal words of the late great John Denver

If I's to change this life I lead
You could call me Johnny Tomatoseed
'Cause I know what this country needs
Home grown tomatoes in ev'ry yard you see

When I die don't bury me
In a box in a cold dark cemetary
Out in the garden would be much better
'Cause I could be a-pushin' up-a home grown tomatoes!

Home grown tomatoes
Home grown tomatoes
What would life be without home grown tomatoes?
There's only two things that money can't buy
That's true love and home grown tomatoes

(recited from memory, so don't nail me if I fudged some of the words)
