September 11, 2008: Ike

From Wunderground.

Hurricane Ike in Key West.

Thankfully, it was just passing by. I can't imagine the damage Cuba must have sustained, with a direct hit.

Trilby  Thursday Sep 11 12:41 PM

I'll bet they're all still drinking at Hog's Breath.

Sarasvati48  Thursday Sep 11 12:48 PM

Hurricane Ike

Nope. They shut down for about 24 hours. Saw it on their webcam...

It's a sad state of affairs when you can't even get a Rum Runner in the middle of a weather disaster.

Amen, sister, amen.

Flint  Thursday Sep 11 02:49 PM

Hey, what was that one bar in N'awlins that stayed open during Katrina?

Trilby  Thursday Sep 11 04:04 PM

Was it JohnnyWhite's?

I think Pat O'Brien's closed. They served a goooood Hurricane.

Trilby  Thursday Sep 11 04:06 PM

How to Make an authentic Pat O'Brien's Hurricane

In a 26 oz. Hurricane glass, mix
4 oz. of Pat O'Brien's Hurricane Rum or a good dark Rum and
4 oz. of Pat O'Brien's Hurricane Mix

xoxoxoBruce  Thursday Sep 11 11:36 PM

Why do you need a 26 oz glass?

BrianR  Thursday Sep 11 11:55 PM

strangely enough no one is out for (wind)surfing ... Good waves, good wind, sea right at your door mat ...

Sundae  Friday Sep 12 10:14 AM

What did Ike say to the palm tree?
Hold onto yout nuts baby, this is no ordinary blowjub.

Gravdigr  Saturday Sep 13 06:25 PM

OK. Who left the hurricane switch on??

dar512  Sunday Sep 14 12:16 PM

Ike (now a tropical depression) has made its way to Illinois and Indiana.

So we're now having our third day of rain.

monster  Sunday Sep 14 02:41 PM

Whoopee, we've had two solid days of rain and that damn thing hasn't even reached us yet..... -coupla hours and it'll be all ours

dar512  Monday Sep 15 01:11 PM

Some good photos of the effects of Ike here.

SPUCK  Tuesday Sep 16 05:13 AM

Thanks dar. Been wondering where to find some shots. Nice ones. Of bad things..

Sundae  Tuesday Sep 16 07:56 AM

Crikey me.
With no TV and no commute (to pick up papers) I had no idea that it had been so devastating. Thanks for the link. Photos like those single buildings left standing really bring home why people needed to evacuate. Wow.

Tree Fae  Saturday Sep 20 08:41 PM

We got enough of a taste of Ike. 6 inches of rain in one day when you are camping is a real pain in the butt. At least it was warm. The next day during our closing ritual at the time we had energy really raised and drums pounding two rainbows presented themselves to us. It was awesome. I will post one of the pictures I got. They weren't great but still neat.

richlevy  Sunday Sep 21 01:00 PM

I think you're all missing the big picture. Ike hit us on Sept 11th. It originated near Cuba.

We finally have our justification to invade Cuba - again.

skysidhe  Sunday Sep 21 06:57 PM

lol
