May 5, 2008: Dog rescue in Thailand

Flickr user Astanhope put this set up on Flickr, and it has been getting attention from digg and others. It was actually taken by his mother-in law in Thailand, as two young kids rescue a dog trapped in an aqueduct.

Well done, lads... well done.

Sheldonrs  Sunday May 4 08:25 PM

Whew! Dinner almost got away!!!

xoxoxoBruce  Sunday May 4 08:51 PM

They were mistaken, he was enjoying the water, that's all.
I don't believe that dog couldn't climb up that embankment, with 4 paw drive and a low center of gravity. The dog only came to the kid being friendly, and was dragged up the bank.

lumberjim  Sunday May 4 08:59 PM

night have been slick under the waterline? a thin film of poo?

xoxoxoBruce  Sunday May 4 09:02 PM

Notice the last picture where he's looking back at the water?

euphoriatheory  Sunday May 4 11:32 PM

Awww.

I'm gonna go to bed thinking they rescued the little dog, and everyone was happy.

(Ignoring the fact that when I wake up, there will be 5 posts with recipes for dog soup.)

Agent-G  Monday May 5 02:58 AM

I have to say....that was pretty weak. I think the dog would have been fine on its own.

Gravdigr  Monday May 5 06:05 PM

I think it's photoshopped.

TheMercenary  Monday May 5 06:34 PM

I think the villagers later ate the children.

hulk  Monday May 5 06:39 PM

What's on the road in the background of the 4th pic? It looks like a second mutant animal they pulled out of the black lagoon.

Sundae  Monday May 5 07:11 PM

Horse.

But I love the idea that they are unwittingly pulling the doom of all mankind from polluted waters because it looked like a puppy... Very James Herbert.

DucksNuts  Monday May 5 08:07 PM

Ha...its a Brahman cow in the back ground, Sundae

Sundae  Monday May 5 08:13 PM

Ist?
Ah well, it was a guess anyway

busterb  Monday May 5 09:29 PM

In Vietnamese, "Thịt chó" means dog meat (Thịt = meat, chó = dog), and you see this sign on countless restaurants and shops around the country. In many regions, it is much more common to find dog meat than beef on the market.

newtimer  Monday May 5 09:43 PM

The background mutant kind of looks like a horse in the 4th picture. A horse with a really long neck and no head.
But in the second picture, it looks more like the Road Warrier, walking toward the boys who are trying to steal his supper.

Or walking toward the boys who are his supper.

Yeah.... I'm gonna say it's a goat.

xoxoxoBruce  Tuesday May 6 11:18 PM

Too big to be a goat, I think DucksNuts nailed it. Brahman cattle have big ears like goats.

Real rescue.

DucksNuts  Friday May 9 07:31 AM

Ohhh, I want one of those

xoxoxoBruce  Friday May 9 11:01 AM

I assume you meant the soldiers, Ducky.

Shawnee123  Friday May 9 11:53 AM

Dog. McDonald's cup. Coincidence? I think not.

DucksNuts  Saturday May 10 07:56 AM

You know me too well, Bruce :p

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday May 10 08:36 AM

Not as well as I'd like to.
