July 14, 2007: World's tallest man meets, well, a very short man

Accuracy in headlines, I say. The Mail, who can't be faulted for wanting a really awesome headline, suggests that the above pic is the world's tallest man and the world's shortest. Well that would be a really amazing thing, but they admit in the story that the tiny gent is a good 5 cm taller than the person already listed in the Guinness Book as the shortest.

Nevertheless, the dude IS extremely short; the Mail does it again with yet another story that catches the IotD eye; and Bao Xishun does it again, staying in the weird news cycle a bit longer.

In today's story, Bao meets the tiny Ping Ping, who is 2 foot 4 inches (73 cm) tall. So almost three and a half of the little guy would stack up to 7 foot 9 Bao.

Ping Ping looks so awesome in his custom tux. The priceless part of this shot is their facial expressions, which only get better in the rest of the Mail story.

Why is the little dude being held up by another normal guy?

Uisge Beatha  Saturday Jul 14 01:35 PM

Pingping better hope Bao hears his name correctly; he wouldn't want the big guy to grab a paddle and start playing Ping-Pong with him.

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday Jul 14 02:12 PM

I guess that's the long and short of it.

Uisge Beatha  Saturday Jul 14 02:18 PM

That last picture with the article is great -- it looks like Pingping could use Bao's shoe as a kayak!

Sheldonrs  Saturday Jul 14 02:39 PM

God I hope they're not gay!

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday Jul 14 04:35 PM

Why not? To Bao, Ping Ping would be like a shaved gerbil to a normal sized man.

Ooooh, poor Pingping! (Hey, I kinda like the sound of that. Poor Pingping.) He sure would be getting the short end of the stick.

Sheldonrs  Saturday Jul 14 09:21 PM

It all depends on which one is the top. ;-)
If Pingping is the top, the Bao might just as well rip the top off a cuetip and stick it in his ass. He'd feel it more. But if Bao is the top, they are going to have to peel Pingping off the ceiling and plaster the hole in the top of his skull after the honeymoon.

"My name is Bao Xishun and I am your twin brother."

"Oh, obviously! The moment I sat down I thought I was looking into a mirror."

Asian people take all the records.

richlevy  Sunday Jul 22 02:49 PM

Why does Ping Ping have the same expression on his face as Joe Pesci in "Goodfellas"?

You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little fucked up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?

Why do you suppose they are both from China? Just sheer odds because they are such a huge population??
(At least those names both sound Chinese, I could be mistaken)

It's the balance of the universe. Yin and yang, so to speak. :-)

spudcon  Tuesday Mar 16 08:46 AM

He had chest pains. Probably heartburn from Italian food.

ZenGum  Tuesday Mar 16 08:56 AM

But with him, chest pains could have been a knee problem.
