5/3/2002: One-eyed seal

Happy Friday! I thought our most voluminous poster might appreciate this lad, a 9 month old harbor seal, who is pictured hanging around at the Brigantine Marine Mammal Stranding Center, in Brigantine NJ (which is just north of Atlantic City).

Because it turns out his one eye there was injured by a gun shot.

No further information was available other than what I have from the caption; I went to the Stranding Center's web page but it appears to not have been updated in quite a while.

Hope that he turns out alright.

Not much else to say here... 'cept that I hope he's able to adapt and overcome.

He's kinda cute though

Its those little cartoon eyebrow whiskers that get me...I'd be a bit timid about popping my face out of the water too, poor drive-by critter.

I bet he tastes good, though.

Mmm... seal..

I was spearfishing of the Channel Islands near Santa Barbara some years back while Scuba diving. I had a stringer of about 6 nice size fish when I felt a huge tug on the fin attached to my foot. Scarred the crap our of me as Blue Sharks roam the area. I looked back and there's a harbour seal waiting for a treat. I unhooked a fish and gave it to him and got the hell out of there.
