November 28, 2006: Ice contours

It's a very nice photo, is this one. Nice composition - really quite artistic. I like the ratios.

It's not immediately clear what you're looking at in this Wunderground shot selected by xoB. Only when you see the second shot does it become more clear:

Says the photographer, Wunderground's vikingman,

We are having a very mild winter here in Mongolia. It is Nov 26 and the river Tuul by Ulaanbaatar still has not frozen solid yet. The rings of ice reminded me of the contours on a map

Very cool.

Reminded me of this pic I saw yesterday through the National Geogrpahic: Mars, 2000

Gleep  Tuesday Nov 28 12:06 PM

Looking at the first picture, I can imagine numerous maniacal tiny ice skaters cutting paths in the ice with tiny skates.

Of course, I've also been accused several times of having an overactive imagination.

Me, too! Once I was skating on the water when a herd of unicorns came flying at me and one of the little gnomes that were riding on their backs and eating popcorn pointed at me and said "you, madam, have an overactive imagination." Hmmph...imagine! :p

Welcome Gleep! I represent the weird and insane here at the Cellar!

Welcome Gleep. Aspirin fan?

It seems that water, especially ice and frost, are one of Mother Natures favorite ways to dazzle us.

This must be fiction. Who has ice anymore? I am told one can go to ice museums to skate. And we all know that unicorns cannot fly indoors.

Indeed. (A fan of Asprin and several dozen other fantasy authors.)
It doesn't seem like too many people recognize Gleep, so I'm always thrilled when someone does. yay.
