October 21, 2006: Guy finally washes hair after 26 years

Neatorama notices this at Weird Asia News. (Unsurprising they have a website called that?)

Meet 80-year-old Mr. Luo of Chong Qing city. He hadn't washed his hair in 26 years when he decided he needed a fresh look (and, I'm guessing, a fresh smell) for an upcoming animal sports event. (They don't say anything more about this event, which surely would be IotD fodder...)

All the townspeople lined up to give him a hand. After many failed attempts using regular shampoo, they spent a total of 5 hours and 3 packs of laundry detergent to wash him clean.

Phase  Saturday Oct 21 11:06 AM

That's disturbing..

Spexxvet  Saturday Oct 21 12:04 PM

Look how filthy the water is. Should have stuck him in a washing machine.

Ibby  Saturday Oct 21 12:16 PM

Jus' slice it all off, it'd be quicker and easier... and I'm sure theres less hair than dirt up there anyway.

KinkyVixen  Saturday Oct 21 12:19 PM

holy fuck, how does he not step on his beard? If it were me (which would be really scary in the first place seeing as how I'm a chick) I know i'd step on it and pull myself into a face plant.

Torrere  Saturday Oct 21 12:57 PM

Is this conclusive evidence that washing hair causes hair loss?

Elspode  Saturday Oct 21 01:14 PM

I'm less disturbed by the amount of filth than I am at the prospect of someone having to comb all that shit out. Looks like a rat's nest on steroids.

Saknussem  Saturday Oct 21 01:17 PM

WTF?

WTF?
Again with the crazy shit in Asia!!!!

Next thing you know, we will be seeing pics of Filthy Thai Mustache Wrestling Champions hitting each others giant red logs with bricks swung from wires attached to their testicles by jumper cable clamps.

That was IOTD in 2002.

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday Oct 21 10:07 PM

Looks like his Grandbaby doesn't recognize him without the dirt....or smell.

"Upcoming animal sports event"..... Isn't that where all those animal fighting pictures come from?

footfootfoot  Saturday Oct 21 10:21 PM

"Upcoming animal sports event"

Maybe it involved dogs and he didn't want to be mistaken for roadkill and be having the dogs trying to roll around in/on him.

Trilby  Sunday Oct 22 09:50 AM

I wonder what kind of wildlife his hair and beard supported.

Jatt  Sunday Oct 22 03:23 PM

Probably several birds, a squirrel or two, maybe even a small family of raccoons (do they have raccoons in Asia)? All I know is I wouldn't want to be the one having to wash that nasty mess...

Don't worry. Lice, fleas, and scabies hang on even after a good washing. Laundry detergent doesn't usually contain lindane.

KinkyVixen  Sunday Oct 22 10:43 PM

What's lindane? Something that kills the lice, fleas, and scabies?

SpaceKid  Monday Oct 23 04:09 AM

When you look at the picture... his real hair and mustache end where the grey colour ends... all the rest is that shit you all just discussed above

It kills lice and scabies. Not sure what to do about the fleas...

By any other name, lindane is the 99% pure gamma isomer of hexachlorocyclohexane. It was introduced as a pediculicide and scabicide in 1952 as Kwell by Reed and Carnrick. The Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Encyclopedia describes the manufacturing process of lindane as one in which chlorine gas is gradually passed into 660 part of benzene (a known carcinogen) until 890 parts of the gas has been absorbed.

SPUCK  Monday Oct 23 05:46 AM

Ah jeesh.. That should kill the vermin... After the rinse for the Deluxe version add one struck match.

Sun_Sparkz  Monday Oct 23 08:08 AM

lice can exist in any hair though, a friend of mine had gorgeous shoulder long curly hair and he was (from what i observed) very clean with it. and he recently had to shave it off as he couldnt get rid of the lice.

ick

Sheldonrs  Monday Oct 23 06:38 PM

I wonder...

How long will it take before one of the villagers decides this would make a great exotic soup and start charging $400.00 a bowl like they do for Bird's nest soup, which is basically hardened bird spit.

Thanks Bri . I understood about 10 words of that, but I know what you mean now, and I appreciate your time and effort...

There was an Old Man with a beard ,
Who said, "It is just as I feared! --
Two Owls and a Hen, four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard.

Edward Lear (1812-1888)

Hi, Scriveyn. How cool is it to make your first post a poem? Welcome!

Scriveyn  Wednesday Oct 25 07:09 AM

Hia, Brianna,
you are quick! - just had to join for this post. Will take a look at the forum now to find out more about the cellar.

Cheers, S.
