Undertoad Tuesday Sep 12 10:23 AMSeptember 12, 2006: Topless Madonna protester [NSFW] [NSFAnybody]
Naked protest has been an IotD staple before, but after a while there was too much of it and it sorta became played out. And then it went away for a while, except for PETA girls in cages. This one is more curious.
Babelfish translates: A woman with a cross and the word "Freedom" written in her chest is taken by the police in a protest against Madonna, in Amsterdam. A scene of the show of the singer in whom it is hung of a cross raises controversy between the Dutch Christians.
I think I got it. But there are a few cultural oddities here which I don't get.
How is it that this person is protesting Madonna's weird attention-seeking mix of the cross and sexuality... by putting on a cross and flashing 'em?
Is it protest because she's, you know, kind of nasty-lookin' as compared to Madonna? Or because she does it in public as opposed to on stage?
How does "freedom" relate to all this?
And lastly, er, is that a man?
Trilby Tuesday Sep 12 10:39 AMSee, I'm very self-conscious and could never go about in public with my girl bits hanging out like that--clearly not a problem this, er, woman has. Perhaps she is saying, "the freedom of Christs love lets me love my body! I'm no slave to culturally mandated definitions of beauty!" Or, maybe she's just a complete nut riding in on Madonna's coattails.
Shawnee123 Tuesday Sep 12 10:43 AMSheesh, I got reprimanded for an ice cream photo that was considered nsfw and wasn't in that thread. I see in the title it's nsfw but I didn't see that title until after clicking on the link to the thread on the right side of the screen. Then it was too late. Luckily, I have my own office and no one was here!
Now, having said that, I would like to end with:
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, gross!
RellikLaerec Tuesday Sep 12 10:45 AMDid you know that it is legal in the state of Ohio for a woman to go topless in public? That's why ya see so many "No Shirt, No shoes, No service signs everywhere!
Oh and GO BUCK!
Shawnee123 Tuesday Sep 12 11:04 AMHell, I didn't know that.
Wait, I'm getting funny looks from my coworkers. I told them it was legal but they seem to think I should put my shirt back on.
mlandman Tuesday Sep 12 11:21 AMyuck
only young attractive women should be naked in public.
There, I said it.
Now, please let me obtain some bleach to scrub my eyes with.

I didn't know you worked here! :p
Nietzman Tuesday Sep 12 11:34 AMHi. Dutchie here.
It's quite simple actually, Babelfish screwed up or the Spaniards didn't get it right. This woman is protesting the Christian protesters.
http://www.ikonrtv.nl/kerknieuws/nieuws.asp?oId=9531
Quote:
Preceding the first of two concerts of Madonna in Amsterdams Arena yesterday, the police arrested a half-naked woman who was scanting explicit lyrics and wearing a cross.
According do indymedia the woman is an anti-SGP activist. (The SGP is our countries most fundamentally Christian party.) "This protest is against stronger growing attempts from Christian fundamentalist to constrain freedom of cultural expression"

Spexxvet Tuesday Sep 12 11:38 AMAll women should go naked all the time. Sing with me! "Every breast is beauuuuuuutiful, in its own way".
As for that woman wearing a man's head: if she's gonna protest like she's being crucified, use real nails, dammit!
Trilby Tuesday Sep 12 12:02 PMHi, Dutchie. Thanks for the real translation! Welcome to the Cellar! *waves*
wolf Tuesday Sep 12 12:03 PMI thought this was going to be a protest against religious idolatry rather than an overrated singer.
Instead, it's a protest against religion.
Interesting.
Welcome, Nietzman.

OUCH! It's a protest, not a pageant.
If I pass the bleach for you, you won't be bothered by sights like this again
xoxoxoBruce Tuesday Sep 12 12:55 PMThey had to send police women.......the guys wouldn't arrest her.
It's not a protest against religion, it's against politically aggressive fundamentalists.
Thanks Nietzman, also welcome.

Right on. Let's see some more of that kind of thing.
BTW, not all women are externally beautiful. Neither are all men. However, beauty is a sum, not a fraction. If you take up with a person based solely on their external appearances, you're asking for major life trouble.
Hell, if all women cared about was looks (and I've said this before here), I'd still be a virgin.
xoxoxoBruce Tuesday Sep 12 01:06 PMWell, you're two for three....we all know you're the studly rockstar type.
Sundae Tuesday Sep 12 01:29 PMThe more I think about this the more I respect her protest. Even if she does appear to have belted her trousers with parcel tape.
Fundies of any flavour are troubled by the naked female form. What better way to peacefully protest than show them what God created?
Sadly it's illegal in this country. And by the police accompaniment I assume it's illegal in the Netherlands too. Sheesh. You can get high as a kite with the Government's blessing, but get your norks out and you're persona non grata!
Elspode Tuesday Sep 12 01:52 PMNorks? Now there's a mammary euphemism I've never heard! Another point for The Cellar!
Sundae Tuesday Sep 12 02:49 PMJust bear in mind it's slang (as in common parlance, not Dwellar)
You don't use it when you're introduced to the Queen.
Undertoad Tuesday Sep 12 03:29 PMDoes anyone use the term "Bristols" any longer?
Shawnee123 Tuesday Sep 12 03:32 PMor Emersons?
capnhowdy Tuesday Sep 12 05:30 PMEven sloppy, ugly boobs are cool to see. It makes you appreciate the pretty ones more. If this 'girl' would cut 'her' head off and turn the clock up to 0200 hrs. she may have a chance. It would also require at least one jug of whisky.
barefoot serpent Tuesday Sep 12 06:06 PMcapn you killed the Hypertrichosis thread and you may have just put the kybosh on this one, too...
Leah Tuesday Sep 12 06:31 PMWhy can't people just get over the fact that Madonna is just an outstanding entertainer doing her job and that maybe all her millions of fans around the work love her and her music, get over her, stop complaining and get on with their own lives. I for one, love her music and don't mind what she wears on or attaches to her body. You go girl and have fun on the way.

Would it ever be appropriate to broach that particular subject upon meeting the Queen? Not that I'll ever need to know the specific ettiquette involved.

oops.... sorry.
romuh doog Tuesday Sep 12 09:07 PMIt's obvious what "freedom" has to do with this.
LET YOUR PUPPIES FREEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee. or.......
Perhaps a clever subliminal message from the Victoria Secrets company to envision what could happen to your breasteses if you buy cheap bras ?

I think she taped that board to her backside.
capnhowdy Tuesday Sep 12 09:27 PMIf that isn't wanting to get nailed, I've never seen it.
What will she be charged with? I mean is it a misdemeanor? I've always wondered what effect a prank like this would have on your criminal record.
xoxoxoBruce Wednesday Sep 13 05:42 AMOver here, it would get your name on several government lists.....probably the same ones I'm on.

Yeah, but are you still allowed to vote?
xoxoxoBruce Wednesday Sep 13 08:26 AMI'll find out in a few weeks. Last time, they made it difficult.
barefoot serpent Wednesday Sep 13 10:22 AMNew Caption:
Fresh from her recent controversey over the death of Steve 'Crocodile Hunter' Irwin, Germaine Greer takes on the pop-music idol Madonna.

Probably because she insists on doing things that demand comment, like crucifying herself on stage. Personally, I don't give a big rat's ass, but obviously she purposely causes controversy, most likely for PR reasons (she wants her supporters to be featured on The Cellar's IOTD).

pah. you'd fuck her.
Elspode Saturday Sep 16 12:14 AMYou know, she looked kinda dykey and all, but I didn't think her gazongas were all that terrible.
xoxoxoBruce Saturday Sep 16 01:03 PMI agree, some hair and make-up would make her look good enough to take home to meet Mother. Father would accept her, as is.
quixotic_lolita Tuesday Sep 26 02:54 PMHa ha ha~ That's funny...gross...but funny.

Shawnee123 Tuesday Sep 26 04:58 PMGross me out the door! (Square Pegs)
stereogramm Thursday Sep 28 04:53 AMI think this woman has to work. Yes, just find a job and work day-by-day. Instead of it she wears a cross ans protests against Madonna.
Madonna just a singer. No politics, no economy, just a singer. I like her.
xoxoxoBruce Thursday Sep 28 05:04 AMUh....check out post #8, stereogramm.
stereogramm Thursday Sep 28 05:25 AMxoxoxoBruce, yeah )) I see...
